I have watched this episode countless times and a Epiphany came over me today. I just realized that nowhere throughout the entire episode was the true motive of the murder ever revealed. Even at the end. When the two punks are being arrested, Justin turns to Colombo and said "we did it because we knew how to do it". The subject of the stolen test never came up after Rusk was murdered.
Ohh, you're right, I never noticed that but I saw the episode many times and indeed it's never mentioned.
I think a reason for that is he basically collaborates with the boys till the end of the episode, making them think he's not onto them, until the final shocking reveal.
An episode with such a similar reveal is a friend in deed, he also collaborates with the commissioner until the end, and now I think about it, I don't remember the heritage motive being mentioned either, after the commissioner's wife died.
they had to because the one kid (blond) was put on notice by his father (after hearing he got another girl pregnant) that if he fu$ked up one more time, he was going to be cut off from the purse strings. The Professor was going to expel them for cheating so they had to kill him
An excellent episode... except for the unbelievable motive.
The most unbelievable thing about this episode is the fact that they use a car alarm key fob in the 90s through several floors of concrete and steel to activate the gun firing mechanism when my key fob won't work from the other side of an open air parking lot in 2025.
I'm not going to worry too much about the distance between the lecture hall and the truck in the garage.
Maybe it's directly below them... we really don't know. Just assume it is and go with it! Or maybe they installed an antenna or amplifier. I wouldn't worry about it!
