Re: Re: TOP 5 COP SHOWS

don't forget Quincy. all the law and orders and all of the csi"s

Re: TOP 5 COP SHOWS

BJ..I agree with you on Kojak and Baretta....loved both of those shows....and Rick..loved Ellery Queen...the show yes...but I loved reading the books......and Damian..the only problem I have with Quincy was the fact that he yelled so much...it used to bother my father so much...but my daddy was faithfully watching every week regardless......
And if you really want to see a really cool cop/detective show..............well here it comes people.............Johnny Staccato..with my guy JC.....coooooooooooooool!!!

Re: TOP 5 COP SHOWS

Sorry BG...I said BJ instead of BG....sorry...and I also agree on the Barney Miller thing.....great show!!

Re: TOP 5 COP SHOWS

could somebody write something so i don't have to be the last word of the night on every thread............boy!!! i am annoying!!!!

Re: TOP 5 COP SHOWS

Gotcha Cass,

1: Columbo
2: Magnum PI
3: Moonlighting (crime?)
4: Monk
5: Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett)

Honorable mentions:
Jonathan Creek (though more of a mystery)
Sledgehammer
Ellery Queen

Now that's good tv!!

Re: Re: TOP 5 COP SHOWS

I'm going to exclude Columbo from my list as it's always going to be number one. In no particular order.

- The Sweeney (70s British cop programme)
- Cops (Tragically unappreciated British cop programme from the 90s, cancelled after two series - a national disgrace)
- Homicide: Life on the street (The first few series were outstanding and novel, they tinkered with the format in later series which made it good but no longer great)
- NYPD Blue (The Caruso-Franz era was amazing. After Sipowicz stopped drinking the programme went toilet)
- The Shield (Just when you think there's no life left in the cop format - they come up with this.)

Re: TOP 5 COP SHOWS

This is not necessarily in order of preference:

(1) Columbo
(2) Rockford Files
(3) Kojak
(4) Mannix
(5) Cannon

I am surprised more people didn't list Rockford, it is excellent and has a loyal fan base. The top 3 were all from Universal so we see the same directors, guest stars, etc.
I actually haven't seen Mannix for something like 30(!) years and I was a kid when it was on, but I recall it being a classy show. It was also made by Levinson and Link along with Bruce Geller who also made Mission: Impossible which is right at the top of my favorites.
I loved corpulent William Conrad who played Frank Cannon, the gourmet-bon vivant detective. Although it was made by Quinn Martin whose output was not as good as Levinson-Link-Geller, it was quite entertaining. I recall that he ended every episode by cooking up a gourmet meal!
I am still waiting for Rocford, Cannon and Mannix to appear on DVD, along with Mission: Impossible!

"Columbo"
"The Untouchables"
"The Naked City"
"Kojack"
"Dragnet"

and

"San Francisco Beat"
(a few scenes were filmed in front of my Grandparents house, and I loved to see views of my home town.)

Re: TOP 5 COP SHOWS

Cool!! That must have been great to see your grandparents' house there......but sadly I don't know the show....who was in it?

Re: Re: TOP 5 COP SHOWS

Columbo-of course

NYPD Blue-until Jimmy Smits left

Mannix-always some really cool cars in that show

Barney Miller-remember Jack Soo after he ate the brownies

Law and Order

Barnaby Jones-it isn't top five, but the scenes of him in his lab sure were different

Re: Re: TOP 5 COP SHOWS

Sheesh...I'm going to have to Google that one. I was a kid, and it was close to 50 years ago!

Re: TOP 5 COP SHOWS
