Hello everybody , I have returned! I cannot say enough great things about this one. This one is one of my favorites of all time. The best thing about this one is the dilogue and the chemistry between Robert Vaughn and Peter Falk. This one really makes me smile. I enjoyed seeing Peter Falk play that game where you throw something and you have to hit your mark, he pretends to be dumb in front of the killer and throws it overboard , this is very funny and metaphoric. Peter Falk and Robert Vaughn look like they had a ball filming this excellent "Columbo" film.
The ending could have been better overall but the rest of it was by far excellent. I enjoy watching this one over and over again. I enjoyed seeing Peter Falk ask Robert Vaughn about room service on the cruise, that was very funny as well. Robert Vaughn was flat out excellent in his role, a really low key performance. I hope they will consider Robert Vaughn for another "Columbo" film.

I hope Peter Falk will do another "Columbo" film one day , I have heard nothing yet. I hope it will happen. I also hope he will play Max the angel again, his last outing was very well done. He had some good screen time in that one. That might happen.

It's a great one Victoria!!!...I love it so much. As I have said here before, Benny Gazzara directed it and said they had a hell of a time!!!....Robert Vaughn was so good in this episode..he was just fantastic!...............I loved the scene where Columbo is talking to Mrs. Danziger..I believe her name was Sylvia...it was a wonderful moment out on the deck..........they really bonded and became close....it was wonderful....and I loved how her hair rustled in the breeze!!

Agree 100%. Super episode. Perfect. One of the
two best, along with "Negative Reaction". Not
only is there good acting, but the story line
is excellent (my third favorite "The Conspirators"
has a weaker plot line but the acting is what
makes it so good).
I also like the scene on the deck with Mrs Danziger.
The scene near the beginning where Columbo is asking
Hayden how to get room service is superb with Hayden
being bored by Columbo but being a used car salesman, he tries to remain polite and repeating:
"push..the red button!".

BTW-I must admit I am surprised that Robert Vaughn
would agree to appear in "Last Salute to the Commodore" which is one of the very worst episodes.

Uhhhh....I know I said it was perfect but...there is one thing I thought of that is a problem...how did Hayden know that Lloyd Harrington would have a public fight with Roseanne Wells just as the cruise was starting? Of course, he could have tried to frame him based on the fact that he might have known about them dating in Las Vegas, but that is not a strong motive for Harrington. Well, no one is perfect.

Good point. And what if Lloyd and Rosanna's relationship had blossomed since the last time Danziger had seen Rosanna? There would be no explainable reason for Lloyd to have killed her.

And one other thing....what kind of capsules was the sodium nitrate in? I used to work in the pharmaceutical business and we had to run tests to see how long it took for the capsules to dissolve. Wouln't those capsules have dissolved in the pool water?

I was distressed to learn that the fingerprinting technique used at the end of this episode is not actually possible in reality. I don't remember who it was, but someone posted on this issue about a year ago here on the forum. Something about the fingerprints becoming unrecognizable during the process of turning the gloves inside-out.

I don't know if this is possible...instead of turning the gloves inside-out, just snip off the tip of one of the fingers and carefully manipulate it to see the print?

Hi all, I haven't posted a message on this site in over three years but it's a pleasure to revisit it.

Yes, I was also disillusioned about the final clue in "Troubled Waters." A few months ago someone broke into my car and left behind a pair of rubber gloves just like Danziger wore. While taking with the fingerprint lady, she said it would be next to impossible to lift a clean print from the gloves, and added that sometimes these detective shows make their jobs look easier than they seem (I'm sure she was referring to "CSI" rather than our show).
