I know he never appeared in Columbo but he was a TV legend.

James Doohan who played Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott has died aged 85.

Ironically his death comes a fortnight after the death of the actor John Fiedler who played the murderer in "Wolf in the Fold" that Scotty was accused of committing the crimes.

I am also a avid Srtar Trek Fan. It is sad the scotty passed away. I heard that he was suffering from diabetes the last few years of his life

I don't know Damian, I believe I read he died of pneumonia and Alzheimer's..........whatever....I always loved how he told Kirk that there was no way he could achieve what Kirk wanted him to do..."I don't have enough power, Captain!!".....but Scotty always came through!!

He may have been typecast but his career never fizzled out. He went on to make 7 Star Trek films and got a nice fee for going to Star Trek conventions. He took full advantage of his famous role
