Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

Rob, I understand your point...and yes that "england" thread did get a bit out of hand.
But I feel I have to agree with Mrs. Peck. As he said, just as in regular conversation, the conversation will sometimes drift into other areas. And as he pointed out some of the best threads have been the ones where people bring up other things. Sometimes they are other issues related to Columbo, but maybe not following the original post idea. And then there are times when the conversation really gets way off topic. But I think on the whole people here try to keep it mostly Columbo.
Again...I appreciate your point....and you are definitely NOT a sod.

Re: Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

Heres the ironic thing.....Rob in order to state his feelings about going "off topic" had to go off topic to post his thoughts

Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

Good point Rob, but I agree with the others it is sometimes difficult to follow rules about staying on topic. And what is "on topic" anyway? Who decides? There is a lot of life and fun on this forum, and, as Mrs. Peck and Cass suggested, this quite often comes from straying off topic. The current thread which has been turned into a discussion on the region of New Jersey of course means nothing to me, but I do find it quite fun to read...if I didn't, I wouldn't. I usually try to stay on topic, but it is fun to wander off sometimes, just as I do in "real life" conversations.

I'm not being a miserable sod here (honest!), but could all the cool Columbo fans out there please use this as a forum to share information on Columbo and not as MSN chat about stuff that only a select few can relate to, eg, the england post. If you want to share stuff other the Columbo e-mail each other or "chat" but please do your best and keep this forum Columbo ONLY. Thanks.

Re: Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

Colombo traces its roots to the kitchen of Rose and Sarkis Colombosian in Andover, Massachusetts. The year was 1929. Using yogurt cultures from her native Armenia, Rose made the first batch of Colombo yogurt over a wood-burning stove.

Up until that time, almost no one had heard of yogurt except the small group of immigrants who had come to America from the Middle East. However, the virtues of yogurt spread quickly by word of mouth, and soon Rose and Sarkis started a business, using a horse-drawn wagon to distribute the yogurt across northern Massachusetts.

The Colombosian's yogurt business remained relatively small until the early 1960s when the health benefits of yogurt gained a larger following. As a result, Colombo grew from a family business to became a leader in the refrigerated yogurt industry. Modern machinery replaced the old wood stove, and a fleet of refrigerated trucks replaced Sarkis's pick-up. But today, it’s still just as good as if Rose was making it herself.

Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

I remember the radio ads for Colombo Yogurt...they had a guy who was impersonating Peter...but they never put a disclaimer in that it was actually not him speaking...but then I think Peter's lawyers took care of that.

Re: Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

Can you imagine Columbo asking for yogurt instead of his usual chili? He would take Johnny Cash's squirrel meat chili over the chili.

Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

I aint seein' Columbo asking for yogurt...no way! And yup, he would sooner enjoy a nice bowl of squirrel chili rather than the yogurt...I personally detest yogurt...but a good bowl of chili...without beans, but with crackers..is a delicious treat!

Re: Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

Another irony is that by keeping it strictly on Columbo, we cannot engage in the tactic Columbo used so effectively in his crime solving: His annoying habit of talking about relatives, etc. while getting his suspect off guard. You can pick up useful information this way.

Re: Re: Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

Works for Columbo, but maybe not on this board. By the way, what did you pay for those shoes?

Re: Re: Re: Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

Believe it or not, Mrs. Peck, I paid over $100 for these Birkenstocks. My nephew--he's working his way through community college--clerks there, and I thought he'd give me a family discount. I said, "That's with the discount?" He said, "It's wholesale." Hard to believe it, but he swears by it. And he's planning on being a cop some day, so I gotta believe it. You've heard the old saying that blood is thicker than water, well, I guess it's true. Maybe it oughta be that the big green is thicker than anything. My wife--that's Mrs. Columbo--thinks these Birkenstocks make me look like I'm from New Jersey. Well, she says that because I wear'em with dark socks. You know, I've noticed that down South they wear'em with no socks or maybe white ones on the more formal occasions. Wait. Dog! Dog!! Put that sandal down!!! Excuse me, Mrs. Peck. You see I dropped some vanilla ice cream on my sandal and ... Dog!!! Get back here!!!

Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

You are insane Michael...I love it......now...what is this about dark socks and sandals????
And I have my brand x Birkenstocks on right now...but heavens!! NO socks!!

Re: Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

What the hell are berkystocks? Are they anything like Thom McCanns?

Re: Re: Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

Birkenstocks are a type of sandal (origin is Germany) that are popular in some quarters, especially university towns (I bought mine in Chapel Hill). I think they really became popular during the 60's. Anyway, it's not that unusual to hear someone of a conservative bent say something like, "He's one of those Birkenstock-wearing liberals from over at the University."

Re: Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

I guess it's another one of those Southern "things." For many years, "down here," we've noticed the tendency for folks transplanted from Yankeedom to wear sandals with dark socks. The custom here is either wear no socks at all with sandals or possibly white socks.

Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

Mrs. Peck...go to birkenstock.com
They are just sandals.

Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

Michael...that dark sock thing with the sandals.....well when I occasionally see a guy like that I just find it so funny!! It is certainly a "LOOK"!!

Re: Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

Yeah, and they know they're commented upon; but they keep on doing it! It's like wearing Depends underneath a speedo . . . the two just don't go together.

Re: KEEP IT COLUMBO PLEASE

Now there's a LOOK!!!
