I see it Austria but I'm not buying it. I would love for Columbo's name to be Frank...that was my father's name and he loved Columbo....but for me Columbo had no first name.

I wonder if the issue about Columbo's first name might be settled by answering the question: Who has or had the right to give him a first name? I think only his creators, Levinson and Link, had that right. If they did not ever give him a first name or approved of any first name others gave him, I'd argue he doesn't have one. I'd appreciate hearing from others on this.

I didn't say that this is his first name. I just found it as a surfed in the internet... and I thought it is worth to post it!!
I also prefer, that Columbo shouldn't have a first name until someone of the producers or persons in charge will reveal one!
Having no first name is part of the legendary Columbo and makes him and his episodes so interesting and wonderful!

Yeah, the nameless hero has been in legend before. "Who was that masked man?" for example.

Michael I think that is a great point...If Columbo's creators..Levinson & Link...did not give him a name then he has no name.......sort of like Frankenstein...the monster had no name!!

I thought the monster's name was Herman. ;)

I suppose you could also say since Columbo has become a developed characer himself . . . and he has not indicated he has a name preference, we don't know what it is. It must exist; it hasn't been revealed by anyone who knows. I don't suppose Mrs. Columbo revealed it? Of course, many don't acknowledge that series.

If it is ever decided to christen Lt. Columbo with a first name, I think the answer is obvious - Peter. A simple tribute: Columbo = Falk.
