Columbo: Candidate For Crime

Hello everybody, I have returned to the forum.
"Candidate For Crime" is one of the best "Columbo" films ever made in my opinion. I really enjoyed this one a lot. I liked Jackie Cooper and Tisha Sterling's performance in this. Tisha Sterling is a very striking looking woman is this "Columbo". The ending is probably the strongest one in my opinion , the acting in the last scene was excellent. Cooper looking very stunned at the fact that he is guilty of murder. Columbo's observations very solid in this one. Tisha Sterling is quite adorable in this one. I like the way she interacts with Columbo. This one aired November 4 1973. There were a lot of great moments in this. Columbo is very determined , and he times how long to get to Cooper's beach house , great acting in my opinion.

"The Thing About My Folks" , Peter Falk's new movie , I guess will be released September 16 2005. I cannot wait for that. Peter Falk and Paul Reiser will also be on "The View" on September 14 2005. Peter Falk will also turn 78 on September 16!! Other Falk films in the can are

1.3 Days of Rain
2.Checking Out
3.Retirement
4.The Book of Joe

I hope we will see another "Columbo" film one of these days , I have heard nothing yet. I also hope Peter Falk will play Max the Angel again. We should pray for the people in the south who are not doing so good. That is a thing to think about as well. Its great to be back on the forum. Watch out for Peter Falk on other shows talk shows as well. Thanks for reading , that is about all for now!!

Re: Columbo: Candidate For Crime

I enjoyed this one too, but found the ending to be one of the weakest. How plausiable was it really for Cooper to think he could fool the police with that staged assasination of him? Where could the assasin shot from?
Better if they would have had a tall building in the area to give come credence to his story.

Re: Columbo: Candidate For Crime

You are right..there was no tall building that the shooter could have shot from....it was a bit silly...how would the guy have shot at him? Very bizarre!

Re: Re: Columbo: Candidate For Crime

Other then that ending, its one of my favorite episodes. I liked when he went to get a suit from Vito Scotti, and then told Cooper, who said something like "Im sure he liked meeting you, he likes a challenge!"

Re: Re: Re: Columbo: Candidate For Crime

His interaction with Vito Scotti as tailor to the rich and famous is almost as hilarious as his interaction with Maurice Evans, butler to the rich and famous, in Forgotten Lady. I wonder if anyone's ever thought of putting all these delightful scenes together? We'd have to include the scenes where he stands on the robe of the Middle Eastern diplomat in--I've got a memory loss as to the title. Great stuff.

Re: Columbo: Candidate For Crime

That was a great line........and Columbo doesn't even realize what he meant....he just says later that he is pretty easy to fit except that something happens in the legs.....oh dear! he is adorable!

Re: Columbo: Candidate For Crime

Isn't it implied by Hayward that the shooter had climbed to his suites balcony from an adjoining room's balcony of from the balcony above or below his own balcony? Isn't the word 'balcony' sort of a strange sounding word when you think about it too much? Balcony. Balcony. Balcony. Oooooooh. That's scary.

Anywho, the tubby police detective does go out onto that balcony and look around the immediate area for evidence that a shooter had been climbing around out there.

A darn good episode though, in my opinion.

Its been awhile since I saw the episode, but I do believe some lame excuse was offered by Hayward. Even with that scenario, think how really silly it was and unbelievable! Since there was a very short time between the shot and people entering the room, how could the shooter leave so soon, unless he was Spiderman!
