I used to have that happen to me constantly, cass, so I opted for Mozilla Firefox. My computer nerd brother informs me that it's much better at resisting pop-ups and other annoying things that Internet Explorer lets through. Not a pop-up to interfere with my Columbo enjoyment since!
Thanks Dirk...it is so annoying, and it just started happening. I think I will reboot again and see what happens. I don't normally shut my computer off, so maybe if I shut it off and restart it again, maybe it may help.
Again, thanks...to you and your bro!!
I NEVER get a pop-up on the Forum page, either in Internet Explorer or in Firefox. I don't even get a "popup blocked" message.
Two thoughts:
1) Check your computer for spyware. I use the free programs AdAware (from LavaSoft) and "Spybot Search & Destroy".
2) Your pop-ups might be coming from the "welcome.to" forwarding service, which lets people get to the site through the address http://welcome.to/columbo. This "free" URL forwarding service does, unfortunately, add pop-ups. I never use it. Is that what you use?
We keep that URL as a memory aid for people who would have a hard time remembering our "real" URL, which is:
http://www.columbo-site.freeuk.com/
If you use the freeuk.com address (and if you don't have a spyware problem), I bet the pop-ups will go away for you!
3) Or, you can avoid the ads inserted by "welcome.to", by bookmarking the Forum page itself. It's at:
YAY!!!!!! That worked Ted!! I hadn't even noticed that it said "welcome to"....but now I typed in the actual address and that nasty pop-up is history!!
Thanks so very much for your help!
