"Any Old Port in a Storm"

I was wondering something about this episode. When Columbo gives the weather report for Tuesday "The 18th", the high was 47 and the low was 42.

Ironically, two days later, the temperature zooms to 109 degrees. Strange.

Also in this episode we find out that Columbo has at least one kid when he says, "If we can get a babysitter, I'll bring my wife." (Referring to the dinner he is going to buy Carsini and his secretary).

Just some tidbits for thought.

Re: "Any Old Port in a Storm"

Hi Fred,

You spotted it also - I think I tagged something onto one of the threads about the weather in this particular episode a month or two ago.

There is definitely a weather inconsistency in this episode - the two bouts of weather of course are crucial on both counts: (1) Columbo's doubt as to whether the playboy victim would leave his treasured car in cool, showery conditions on a clifftop near the beach and (2) The other extreme when the wine oxidises due to the very hot temperatures!

I know the weather is subject to extremes and changeability but this does take the biscuit!

Thought you might like to know on the subject of weather that the UK had snow today which, given the time of year, is unusually early for us.

Look at my posting on the nearby thread about
"Favorites" . I lived in Southern California
for many years and there is no way the weather would
change in such a drastic way within a couple of
days.
Very observant!

Must confess that this is one of my least favourite episodes but that aside just wanted to mention what a brilliant actor Donald Pleasence is.
His character portrayl in World war 2 films was excellent (Great Escape and The Eagle has Landed) and wasn't he a baddie in a Bond?

Apologise that my film knowledge is a bit simplistic!

Donald Pleasence started acting on the London stage in 1939. He served in the RAF, was shot down and held in a POW camp. His balding, bland face and memorable voice made him the most popular actor on British TV He specialised in strange or menacing characters from Ernst Blofeld in You Only Live Twice (1967)
