Re: Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

The might wait a long time to release the columbo series on dvd for anticipation. If you have to wait that long you will appreciate them more.

Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

Somehow I don't think that's their motivation.

Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

I think they are just a bunch of big TEASERS!!!!

Re: Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

Anyone notice that according to the annoucement they are going to use single sided discs this time? If that remains true, that's 2 episodes per disc and probably no extras. I thought with just 6 episodes in the 4th season that they might stick some extras on this set.

Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

Thank you for the news! I would go nutty if all seasons were released at the same time. I could never afford to shell out that much money all at once. A bit here and there every few months is better - for me anyway. There are lots of other TV DVD sets I buy, so spreading out releases is fine with me. Perhaps a bit faster though. Season Three was out quite some time ago and now Season Four won't be out until March 14th. That's a bit too much time inbetween.

Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

Headache, what do you mean you "WOULD" go nutty??? I thought you were there already???

And Rex I did notice how they said these dvds would be one-sided..........so I guess no extras?

Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

I agree Headache it's easier to have them spread out a little but 6 months between seasons is hard for me to rationalize.

Re: Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

Actually, six-seven months between seasons is really fast for the most part in the TV on DVD market. I can name plenty of series that have spread out season releases over a period of several years (think Mary Tyler Moore), and others that after a couple years are still stuck on Season 1 (Night Gallery was released the same time as Columbo Season 1 and has not had any of its seasons released since). Columbo fans are generally lucky compared to fans of other series.

I am glad we have a date for Season 4, and it will be great to see episodes like "Exercise In Fatality" and "Troubled Waters" again.

Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

The only thing though, Eric, Columbo 'seasons' had far less episodes in them than all these other series. But what the heck....as long as they are putting them out it is ok. As long as I am not dead by the time they get to season 7!!
And there are some goodie episodes in season 4............can't wait!!

Re: Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

The best episode of Season 4 was "Negative Reaction." It is a classic. A few others like "By Dawn's Early Light" and "Playback" are not too far behind either.

Occasionally the DVD set contains some scenes which I had never before seen when watching the episodes on TV throughout the years. Hopefully this will be the case with Season 4, which always makes the purchase of the set all that more exciting.

Attention "Desperate Housewives" fans: Season 4's "A Deadly State of Mind" has Susan's mother thirty years ago.

Re: Re: Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

In my humble opinion, season 4 was when the
series hit its peak. Many of my favorite
episodes are from this season.
I have never seen "Playback" or "Deadly
State of Mind" so I have new experiences
to look forward to!

Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

Eric, I know that "Mary Tyler Moore - Season One" did not sell as well as was predicted or hoped by the company that released the DVD. It took forever for Season Two to appear. The cover art of Season One was really "Blah" (in my most humble of opinions.) But have you seen the cover art for the upcoming Season Three of MTM? YOWZA! (See it on TVshowsonDVD.com) Thing is, this picture of Mary looks very much like she did during the "Dick VanDyke Show" days.

I haven't purchased any of the MTM DVDs yet. Amazon even recently was selling them for $14.99. Half off their regular price. Still didn't purchase them though. As for other TV shows that haven't gotten past Season One on DVD, I'm still on the lookout for more seasons of "Barney Miller". I have the first season of 13 episodes which are all hysterical. But that DVD didn't sell up to expectations either. I'm sure happy that "Columbo" is selling well! I wonder how the ABC years will be packaged?

Oooooooh, IcantwaitIcantwaitIcantwait!

Re: Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

AMEN to what you said about Barney Miller! I love it
and I can't believe that they haven't come out with the next season which has some really great episodes.
I heard what you said about MTM season 1, but they did eventually come out with season 2 so there is hope about Barney as well.

Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

Barney Miller was great! My father loved that show....he loved Jack Soo...Nick Yemana....and of course Abe Vigoda..Fish.........it was a terrific show...lots of great characters.

Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

Cassa,

On the off-topic of "Barney Miller"... I watched this show with my parents when I was a kid. I hated, Hated, HATED Abe Vigoda's "Fish" character. I thought he was absolutely boring. NOW that I'm older, I get the jokes! Fish is hysterical!

Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

You watched it with your parents?
What is it? Why do I always think you are so much older than me? It must be the Headache mystique....that you are thousands of years old, holding all the wisdom of the ages!!

Fish used to annoy me (and scare me!) a bit when I was younger too, but I just ran with it, because my father liked him so much.
There are a number of Columbo alumni from this show...most notablly James Gregory (The Most Crucial Game and Short Fuse) and Gregory Sierra (the phantom listing in the credits of Publish or Perish, in which he never appeared!!)
And there are also guest shots from.........Vic Tayback, William Windom, Bob Dishy, Bruce Kirby, Nehemiah Persoff, and A Martinez.

Re: 4th Season DVDs, Merry Christmas!!!!

oh............love your little fishie!!!
