Supporting Actor John Finnegan

I was reading an article recently on John Finnegan and I realized how many of Columbo episodes he was in. For instance, he was Lt. Duffy in "A Friend In Deed," he was Barney in "A Trace Of Murder". He was also the guard in "Last Salute." And there are several other Columbo episodes that he was in. For me, I think he is a very good actor and proves it by playing multiple roles on various columbo episodes. So cudos to you John, you've earned it.

Re: Supporting Actor John Finnegan

yeah..he was in a bunch of them....also blueprint for murder..lovely but lethal...fade in to murder..the most dangerous match. johnny got around!
along with fred draper, val avery, timothy carey, jimmy joyce, cliff carnell...all these actors appeared more than once...and they never received the fanfare as some other repeat actors.
and as a side note...(which i obviously can't resist saying )..all these actors were semi-regulars in john cassavetes movies.

Re: Re: Supporting Actor John Finnegan

wow, you are good cass. I could not remember all of these movies. BUT...I didn't care too much for Blueprint For Murder. Not my favorite episode by any means....

:)
Hi
They all should have earned more acknoledgement than they did,it just goes to show how able they all were to be convincing in different roles. I would assume Peter had some fun making these series with familiar faces.
Nick:)

Re: Supporting Actor John Finnegan

i know what you mean fred...i did not like blueprint the first few time i watched it...all those long scenes of the digging process seemed a bit dragged out.
but after i watched it a few more times i grew to really like the episode. i had read about peter directing it and what a rough time he had..and also that this might be the last episode..(him grinding his cigar in the dirt)...and then i started to appreciate the whole episode.

Re: Supporting Actor John Finnegan

oh, oh! speaking of actors who appear more than once. this has been driving me crazy, and i am too lazy to spend time looking through credits to figure it out.

the guy who played the doctor or doctor's assistant in "a stitch in crime"--the one who tells columbo that suture is the only thing with a chemical base that is purchased from MAC and who gets so excited while watching the bowel resection.....he was in at least one other episode, but i can't remember which one(s). does anyone know offhand? i remember seeing him recently and thinking, "that's the same guy!" but i can't remember which episode or role now.

i can't help it. it's like getting ahold of half of something, and you can't get the other half.

i was up all night! these things BOTHER me!

Re: Supporting Actor John Finnegan

I'm too lazy to go check, but wasn't he the film editor in Double Exposure who demonstrated subliminal cuts to Columbo?

Re: Re: Supporting Actor John Finnegan

****....I just watched this episode LAST night. Well, I'll double check it 'cuz I left the tape cued up at the end where the credits were rolling. Stand by, later today I'll have it. I hope....

Re: Supporting Actor John Finnegan

Interesting...i'll have to cue that one up. I can't picture who that subliminals guy was. It is not ringing a bell as being the same person, but i will have to check. Thanks!
