Fantastic Reference in "Ashes to Ashes"

First of all, I know some of you haven't seen this because is aired in 1998. But Patrick McGoohan gives another stellar performance as the funeral director, Prince.

In this episode, Columbo makes a reference to a very old radio show. He says at one point, "Who knows? Only 'The Shadow' knows."

I happen to have an XM radio and love to listen to old classic radio. Including the old episodes of "The Shadow." Not sure exactly where I'm going with this, but the "Shadow" solved many murders and other things himself. Perhaps this was just by coincidence, but I thought it was fascinating.

OK, it's Saturday night and I'm bored (can you tell, CASS?) Anyhow any thoughts would be appreciated :)

Re: Fantastic Reference in "Ashes to Ashes"

Well, since you said ANY thoughts: How is 'The Shadow', any good? I have a bunch in mp3 format that i've never listened to.

Re: Fantastic Reference in "Ashes to Ashes"

how is the shadow any good????? only the shadow knows!!
and fred we recently got sirius radio...and i know they have those shows on there too...i just have to check out the station list...a lot of those old shows would be great to listen to.

(and yes...your boredom showed!!! )(just kidding.. )

Re: Re: Fantastic Reference in "Ashes to Ashes"

I like the shadow, listened to it this morning!

Re: Re: Re: Fantastic Reference in "Ashes to Ashes"

Wasn't there a "Shadow" film made back in the 1990's? I don't recall who played the leading role.

Re: Fantastic Reference in "Ashes to Ashes"

Yes, there was a movie made in the 90s. A rather poor movie starring Alec Baldwin as Lamont Cranston - The Shadow!

Re: Re: Fantastic Reference in "Ashes to Ashes"

I suppose my comment/question had to do with the "Shadow" comment corresponding to the movie production . . . perhaps the comment was written in as someone involved with the production of "Shadow" was involved in the Columbo episode. Does anyone know if they were produced at about the same time?
