Wonder how many villians that Columbo arrested in the past have comne up for parole. Especially ones like Brimmer who really never committed first degree murder. Anyway, an idea for a new Columbo could be either one of two things. One - someone gets out of prison with a vengeance to 'do in' our favorite detective and he has to stop them beforehand; or 2 - someone gets out and commits another murder and Columbo has to solve it. Not a bad idea for a script.
Great idea, Steve. The murderers that I see most likely to seek revenge are Milo Janus from "An Exercise in Fatality", Deputy Commissioner Mark Halperin from "A Friend In Deed" and Dr Eric Mason from "How To Dial A Murder". Janus seemed to really dislike Columbo, Mason seems perfectly capable of it (heck, he tried to kill him at the end of the episode) and Halperin definately has a grudge. It's got to be embarassing to be very high up in law enforcement and taken down by an underling.
Re: Re: Re: Interesting Idea for a New Columbo Movie
Pretty d-a-m-n good idea in my opinion. (Note that's how to get a cuss word on here without having the **** thing starred out). Potential problem - some of these murderers will be like 80 years old, right? For instance, can you imagine Adrian Carsini, complete with his wheel chair, getting paroled then committing another murder? Perhaps with a cane (like in Get Smart, have the cane actually be a gun in disguise). We could title if "Murder By Geriatrics."
I'll take this opportunity to plug Martin Ross' great web site, "Just One More Paragraph", a collection of Columbo "fan fiction" featuring some very good, original "Columbo" stories and scripts by talented writers, some of whom are regular visitors to this Fan Forum.
This discussion particularly puts me in mind of that site's first contribution, "Vengeance Is Mine" by Eric Paddon -- a follow-up to "Presciption: Murder," set many years later.
Yeah, many of those folks are in their eighties. Of course, the murderer(s) probably wouldn't chance a death sentence at that age . . . their motive would be revenge and only revenge. The producers would have to be careful if several colluded in a murder scheme to avoid it becoming an "Over-the-hill-gang caper" beneath Columbo.
Many thanks for the plug, Ted! Of the four Columbo fanfics I've written, that remains my favorite just because I liked the idea of bringing Columbo full-circle as it were.
