"I find Abagail Mitchell as one who is playing with a full six-pack, yet lacks the little 'plastic thingy' that holds it together.."
^^that is very cool!! good one!
ok...i know most of you will disagree with me, but i thought joyce van patten as ruth lytton in 'old-fashioned murder' was absolutely superb.
no, she wasn't the regular type of murderer for columbo to tackle...but darnit! she was so good!
her character embodied all the old-fashioned wisdom of family and trust....and yet she had these little strange quirks to her that were amazing.
if you listen closely to the comments she makes throughout the entire episode, they are so freakin funny!!
and the best thing about her is her dry.......and i mean VERY dry sense of humor. i love when people have that quality, and she definitely does!
I generally don't like the stories with women
murderers, notable exceptions being Leslie Williams
in "Ransom for a Dead Man" and Kay Freestone
in "Make Me a Perfect Murder".
I suppose it is proper that most of the killers should be male to parallel real life. As for the female villains, "Ransom For a Dead Man" and "Rest in Peace, Mrs. Columbo" are both on my list of top-10 episodes, with "Lady in Waiting" not far behind.
Perhaps the following "Columbo" guest stars would have made a decent murderess if given the chance...
Anne Francis
Blythe Danner
Mariette Hartley
Trisha Noble
Rue McClanahan
Rue McClanahan- ha that is funny - she would have killed someone and then tried desperately to "pick-up" on Columbo the whole rest of the episode, and he would have loved it.

"here here, i highly agree regarding joyce van patten !!!!!"
terrific!!
she is not much of a favourite here, as well as the episode itself...buy i thought she was just terrific...a very different and complex character.
