Re: Monk and Columbo

i find them exactly opposite but the one thing they have in common is that they have a nose for crime and have their own weird habits to solve it...hi everybody!!!

Re: Re: Monk and Columbo

While I enjoy watching Monk, and like the show, I don't find it as realistic as Columbo. Columbos "quirks" are more real then Monks.

Re: Monk and Columbo

I agree with you Mrs. Peck. I have only watched 3 episodes of the Monk show, but it seems to me like his quirks are over the top. It's as if someone used the very successful formula from the Columbo series, then inflated the aspects to get it attention. That being said, I still really enjoyed watching the show.

Re: Monk and Columbo

hi mrs. peck!!!

and although i enjoy monk very much, and enjoy the 'symbolic' type of resemblances between he and columbo...i just find that columbo's quirks are more endearing.......but i do love monk's too.

Re: Re: Monk and Columbo

I think Columbo's quirks are more realistic, because they aren't caused by OCD as is Monks, but rather certain character personality traits/flaws that all us posses in one way or the other.

Like Columbo, I don't like to fly.

Like Monk, I like to have things symetrical.

Re: Monk and Columbo

I also enjoy "Monk," however I believe there is far too much unrelated slapstick comedy. To a degree, this also started happening in "Columbo" but the plots on "Columbo" were still generally strong which helped balance the unnecessary comedy filler.

Unfortunately with "Monk" the slapstick comedy is thrown in to fill out mystery plots that are generally weak. When "Monk" hits its mark, it can be very good, but recently "Monk" hasn't been hitting its mark too often. And I'm not much of a Natalie fan, but with stronger material she probably would be more watchable.

Re: Monk and Columbo

I once heard someone say that they thought that Monk was the new generations' Columbo.

Re: Monk and Columbo

I've been a bit of a champion for Monk before on this site. It's no Columbo but it sure beats all those crime procedural shows around now...C.S.I, Criminal Minds, Cold Case, Without a Trace, Numbers,..ad nauseum.
I like Monk's powers of observation (like Columbo), his phobias (like Columbo's but raised to the n-th degree), and the relationship with his wife, (like Columbo's but she's dead).

Reminds me of another fav show of mine... Jonathan Creek.

Re: Monk and Columbo

Mark D.- Couldn't agree with you more!!It seems like the newest crime/mystery shows have to have graphic depictions or else generation xyz won't watch. Must be the lack of an attention span.
