Short review of "Just One More Thing"

I came across a review that briefly addressed a half-dozen recent books, all by celebrities. Here's what the writer had to say about Peter's new book:

"Just One More Thing," by Peter Falk: The two-time Oscar nominee (for Murder, Inc. and Pocketful of Miracles) eschews a chronological approach, jumping randomly from his friendship with John Cassavetes to using his glass eye for pranks to almost an entire
chapter on Columbo's raincoat.

"Last Word

"Falk 's career captivates, but not his scattershot storytelling."

OK, so the reviewer doesn't like the format of jumping around from one topic to another. That describes what some folks call a "popcorn book": enjoy a few mouthfuls, go back to it later and enjoy some more, in no particular order. Pretty much like the way Peter Falk, in person, would share the reminiscences of his life.

Which suits me fine. Sounds like, to be a bit crude, a great book to read on the can. Which is probably where a Columbo does a lot of his reading. I don't care if it isn't "chronological," like an encyclopedia entry.

To me, the best part of the review is the mention that Peter devotes almost a whole chapter to Columbo's raincoat. What more could we want?

Fortunately, my birthday is coming up on Wednesday! And my wife (that's Mrs Kerin), is well aware of my interest in this book. I'll keep the group posted, after I've read it.

Well Happy Birthday to you, Ultimate Columbo Website Big-Wig!!!

I'll be checking out that book myself soon.

Re: Short review of "Just One More Thing"

Candor at any age, and all any of us are left with is our memories. Life marches on, but nothing could speak louder to me in the here and now than the reasons I purchased five seasons of Columbo on DVD.

Re: Short review of "Just One More Thing"

i won't forget your birthday ted, believe me..and there is another birthday i have to post about on tuesday..so the 'happy birthday' threads will be flying!

yes the raincoat 'chapter' was great......and the whole book is too, just for the reasons you stated. you don't have to read it chapter by chapter..you can just pick up any part of the book and read away..and have fun with it. it is light and fanciful..
