Re: Murder By The Book

You want Franklin to go free but feel no sympathy for LaSanka?? Yikes!!

Re: Re: Murder By The Book

I have another question about this one. I'm pretty sure she isn't in the credits, but does anyone know the name of the actress who played the woman interviewing Ken in his house in that one scene (the very "chic"-looking one)? She always reminds me a little of Jo Ann Pflug, though it isn't. (Maybe partly because she was in a very good TV movie with Peter Falk at the same general time.)

Re: Re: Re: Murder By The Book

mmm not sure about the actress (is pflug a real name??) but recall the scene and how self righteous ken is, doesn't he smarm some comment about meeting her for dinner or something? have to say i have little sympathy for lily laskanskalaska, you just go to the police right? tell columbo you're lonely and maybe he'll hook you up with a colleague/nephew/guy he knows ......its got to be better than being embroiled with old square head santini. anyway, her teeth are too large for her mouth. (sorry any columbo fans with large teeth)

Re: Murder By The Book

grant, it took some searching but i got it. the sad thing is, i wasted my time searching because it was in the columbo phile all along!! i just never noticed it!!
at first i thought it was joyce bulifant, but that didn't seem right when i looked at pictures of her.
then i played the tape, and at the end of the interview franklin asks if he can call her gloria.
well, listed in the credits is lynnette mettey as 'gloria jr.'! what the jr. is all about i don't know, possibly standing for 'journalist' so then i looked up pictures of her and it was indeed lynnette mettey.

as a side note i did a search on the 'second reporter' listed in the credits, haven earle haley. i thought he was a she. turns out he's a he and he wrote a book entitled "how to win at casino gaming tournaments"
just a piece of useless information for you

"i feel no sympathy for ms. lasanka. after all she was a part and party to murder! i have thought of an alibi for mr. franklin. he could have told ms. lasanka that yes, 'james' (i changed that for you )was with me at the cabin, then the mob came and kidnapped him and threatened to kill me and my wi..companion if i told! i think she was gullible enough to believe that."

interesting viewpoint. and to be truthful i tried very hard to poke a hole in your alibi for franklin. but i failed. in actuality that may have worked. and then he wouldn't have had to go ahead and commit the "sloppy"(as columbo calls it) murder.

heck, what the whole episode boils down to is that franklin should never have brought a "male guest" to his place!

Re: Murder By The Book

oh! a couple of more thingys....

lynnette mettey appeared on many 70's shows. and she played various nurses on m*a*s*h.
and tonight i saw an episode of m*a*s*h which had a guest appearance by mako, aka mr. ozu, from murder under glass.

and...i love the scene in the beginning where franklin is opening the bottle of champagne to share with james ferris in his office. the plastic cork pops before franklin has a chance to pop it himself. i don't know if that was planned or not, but jack just breezes through it!! yay jack!!

(ok...i'll stop posting in this thread... )
(for now, anyway )

Re: Re: Murder By The Book

Thank you, Cassavetes. Now that I think of it, I guess I do recognize her from those early MASH episodes. Not everyone could "carry off" that kind of clothing style she wore as the interviewer, like that hat (not in 1971 any more than right now), but she makes it very attractive. I think (small role or not) she deserves a place in that thread from some time ago, that "attractive people on Columbo" thread (whatever the exact title is).

Re: Murder By The Book

you are very welcome sir grant
yes, the hat was a bit much, even for the freaky 70's!! and she was even wearing the 'nancy sinatra' white boots!!! .......but as you say, she pulled it off regardless.

(oh, as an aside, feel free to call me cassa or carleen(my name ) instead of typing out cassavetes )i don't want you to wear your fingertips out! )

Re: Murder By The Book

C'mon Snowgirl, give her a break; we've all been accessories to murder at one point or another.

Re: Murder By The Book

According to IMDB she and another actor were shot leaving a class they were teaching, killers were never caught.

Re: Murder By The Book

Another "Columbo" murder victim who was murdered in real life, is Sal Mineo ("A Case Of Immunity").

Re: Murder By The Book

Sal Mineo, who played the naive fall guy 'Habib' who was killed by Hassan in 'A Case Of Immunity' was also murdered in real life near his apartment complex in LA. It was apparently a botched robbery attempt (mugging). It happened not long after the episode aired (within a year or two I think).

Re: Re: Murder By The Book

Sal Mineo aswell? oh no, he's so cool. this is awful.
