For the past seven years, the News staff at WCBU has paid their INBA dues out of their own pockets. Previous management didn't see it as important or worthwhile.

But our new GM has said the expenditure will be covered. He says it makes sense for all of us to be members.

Hopefully this story of a minor success can help inspire others still battling with management. Hang in there. Good things can happen.

That is fantastic news. The same thing happened at WLS a couple years ago.

With all that we hear about management downsizing news - in both air time and staff sizes - it is, indeed, refreshing to hear of managers who recognize the importance of their news product and their news people.

I feel extremely fortunate that Galesburg Broadcasting Co. pays for my membership -- and my colleagues' memberships -- in INBA, despite what is a tough situation for us sales-wise for a number of reasons. I'm also glad that the company covers us for attending conventions. They believe in our continued professional development, and I'm grateful for that.
