Sunshine Week

INBA is a proud supporter of Sunshine Week, March 13 - 19. Sunshine Week is a national media campaign to focus public attention on open-government issues.

Please visit this web site (cut and paste in your browser):

www.sunshineweek.org

Included on the Sunshine Week site are links to background reports, resources and open-government organizations; testimonials from Florida editors about the impact of the original Sunshine Sunday; contact information on regional and state coordinators; and materials available for publication, including op-ed columns. Also included are story ideas and a listing of stories involving open records that have appeared around the country.

I'd like to encourage you to do stories pertaining to open-government issues during Sunshine Week, March 13 - 19.

Steve Scott
INBA President

Re: Sunshine Week

Greetings:

To elaborate on what Steve said...
If you do stories, don't forget to plug INBA and the efforts we're making to try to make a difference in the battle to keep government open. A link from your station's Web site to the INBA Web site would be a big boost. Let's not be greedy, though. Links to other groups working in this area would also be beneficial. Such groups include the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, RTNDA and SPJ.
Many of those who support the war effort underscore their feelings by reminding people that "freedom isn't free." The same is true here. We have to exercise our First Amendment right so it won't wither and die. Recent surveys have shown that a full 40 per cent of college students surveyed thought that the media should be curbed. That is scary. Promoting Sunshine Week, while underscoring the threats that await the American people if the media are muzzled, is one of the great services we can do for all of our viewer, listeners and readers, not to mention ourselves.
