John (Parkins) Gribble

I have a dilemma - my great great grandfather was a John Parkins Gribble. His tombstone is in Uplyme Churchyard and reads as follows: In memory of John Parkins Gribble son of J.F. Parkins, Esq., of Collumpton, nr. Exeter Who died in the parish of Uplyme, Devon, Feb. 22nd. 1835 aged 66 years. He had at least three, maybe more children, born in Wyke Regis in Dorset, including my great great grandfather, Abraham b.1820. His wife was an Elizabeth. Where did he come from? And what is the link with the Parkins? Anyone any ideas?
