A fool and their money

Rangers and Boras are renegotiating Andrus's 8 year contract for $120M or AAV of $15M after only 2 years because of an opt out clause. The guy improved from a 750ish OPS to an OPS under 810 during each of the 2 years of the contract during his 27 & 28 year old seasons. He is ranked 6th as SS so that is about bottom of top 20 % with and ADP of 167 or roughly the middle of a draft in spite of being in a very good hitters park.

His BB total was his career low and his K were a career high last year. Is he really worth more than AAV of $15M on a long term basis for 2 years of that slightly improved production? At age 29, do you want to give him more than the remaining 6 years in length?

Frankly I would let him walk before I would set a president of renegotiating because a player has an opt out and had a very marginal improvement at their prime age. I would assume the player and the team originally assumed he would improve when he hit his prime when the original contract was negotiated.
