Do you think that faeries and elementals are two terms for the same creatures? I've read books that seem to operate under that assumption but I personally tend to disagree...so now I'm throwing it out to this community....since you all are the only ones I know of to talk about such things with and I get the feeling there are some wise old souls on here that know much more than I do...
what do you think?

I dont think theyre quite the same terms... sure there are faeries that are associated with certian elements... but I think elementals would be an entirely different matter, more bound to a certian element then "normal" faeries. =/

I do think elementals are essentially a particular type of Fae, yes.

I agree with Pyrian. I've always seen elementals as a type of fae. However, not all fae are elementals.

Now this is what this forum should always be about, Are they the same? I think so, but are all ghost spirits or are they faeries as well?

Morning Grey...I've wondered that as well...
the Celts thought/believed that ghosts are in the same league as the fae (I hope I'm remember my celtic folklore correctly). I personally think they are different beings...that is just my experience.
But then Fae may be ancestor spirits as well which is different from ghosts...also there are different sorts of ghosts...

The whole elemental question popped up because it seems to me that the fae are a lot more diverse than the elements..sure the elements are in everything (plastic??) but the fae seem to me more specialised than that and there are some that seem to span more than one element...
But I'm always open to new ideas

From my impression after reading lots of books on fairies, that the Elmementals are more low-key and work directly with their element. They are more hidden and work UNDER the fairy's authority. They are also intelligent but are happy to remain more "behind the scenes".

Fairie's seem to be the Elemental's supervisors, protectors, directors, though the fae's, elves, gnomes, etc .., do not let it get to their heads as many human CEO's and leaders do.

From reading Dora Van Gelder's books on fairies, there are also angels that work on behalf of this planet, who supervise over the Fairies.. so it's like a big chain of command in the higher dimensions.

Elementals are intelligent, but they specialize in working specifically with thier Element, and they work in hidden ways, behind the scenes. If you're going to have an encounter with someone from thier Kingdom, it will be with a Fairy, elf, gnome, etc. before it will be with an Elemental, ( unless you are clairivoyant and see them regardless.)

It seems that the Elementals focus all thier attention on assisting and ministering their specific elements, while the Fae's also keep an eye on what is going on around the outside.. and socialize with each other much like humans do.

I always thought that the word elemental was the general term used for all the nature spirits...like faeries/dawfs/elves/devas and so forth.

I guess everyone has there own interpretation.....

Boldylocks - my RM says the same, that faeries are earth bound spirits, but are different to angels, as the fae can sometimes be tricky (if they so choose).

...So now we have faeries, elementals and Angels....

Do you think there is a difference between these three? and what do you perceive that difference as? And how do the "Sidhe" fit into this story?
(I remember years ago we had a spirited discussion about faeries and angels but I don't recall what the consensus was..if there ever was one)
