Karma

Hi all, I’m doing this piece for my website and I wanted to ask everyone’s opinion. It’s a work in progress, so please be gentle. :)

Basically, I would like to know if the info is helpful. Did it click with you? Did you learn something? Would you share it with your friends? Did it make sense? etc.

Thanks ahead of time!
With Much Love,
Dragonfly

Karmic Balance

In almost every area of Metaphysical study there are reams of information on how karma relates to the subject matter. In Astrology we have a particular point this falls under. It's called the Point of Fortune. This isn't just our fortune to be created; it provides the building blocks from which we can pull information and bring ourselves into Karmic Balance. This is the karma we have coming into this life and what pitfalls we need to watch out for and also what blessings we need to recognize.

In Numerology we can find how much karma we've brought with us from past lives and also how to deal with it in our current day to day lives.

Even most religions speak of karma (though some don’t even realize it). For instance, in Christianity, Jesus is quoted as saying in Luke chapter 6, 37 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” Was Jesus not speaking of Karma?

In Pagan and Wicca tradition, there is a creed, which is simply, “Harm None”. This is not merely a warning or a fanciful ideal. It is also to protect us from ourselves. When we wish harm on others, we are indeed harming ourselves and indeed building our karmic balance.

It is our obligation to respect those that live on this earth with us and to understand how our thoughts, actions and words can affect our karma, either for good or for bad.

I’m sure some of you have experienced a moment when you were so mad, that you wished harm on another being. Have you ever wondered if your thoughts were to blame for the accident that followed? Or the loss of their job? Or a run of bad luck? Or ill health? Or even a death?

Let’s suppose for a moment that our negative thoughts towards them were the catalyst that brought them harm, whether physical, emotional, mental, or even monetarily. Now ask yourself, how that action, word, or thought affected your Karma and thus, your life? Maybe that one act of anger changed the tide of your life too.

I like to think of this as the ripple effect. That stone you threw into the water (universal energy) didn’t just ripple out in one direction but indeed, it rippled out into all directions, including back towards you.

How to recognize Karmic Debt:

Do you often wonder why others are opposed to you? Do you carry grudges and act out on your anger by punishing those you see as the problem? Are your dreams always just out of reach? Does your career lack that special something? Are you always looking for love, only to be left wanting? Does life seem like an endless uphill battle? Do you get depressed easily? Are you lonely?

These questions are key in understanding the type of karma you have created in your life. If you can answer yes to any of these questions, then I would bet that in the recent past you have let negative emotions rule your actions, thoughts, and/or words and thus created a negative karmic balance in your life.

How do you get your karma back into balance?

My first suggestion would be to throw off the shackles of grudge-keeping. Forgive those that you see as lacking. Embrace those that would mean to harm you, just as you embrace those that love you. Scatter blessings to everyone you meet and do so willingly and without malice. And finally, open your heart to the universal energy so that you may learn how to flow within the current and not work against it.

Re: Karma

Excellent post Dragonfly. Personally I believe in karma - both positive and negative, as in whatever energy we put out, whether it is through our thoughts or our actions, it comes back to us, sometimes even more so than what we put out.

If we look at the ancients of Atlantis for instance, I am sure the people who resided there are paying, or have paid for their actions - wherein they used their healing abilities, and also crystal for ego based means, rather than for the good of all humanity. One of the legends surrounding Atlantis, is that it is due to the ego based actions, which caused its demise. Perhaps even some of us here on this forum, are reincarnations from Atlantis.

If we look at our own relationships in life, whether it is family, friends, or work colleagues, and consider the struggles we have there, one only has to wonder what karma is being played out with these very people. Karma plays a part, not only in one life time, but over many lifetimes.

Also, if we base it on the life we are currently living alone, karma comes up in the situations we have not yet fully resolved, will keep propping up again and again, till we learn a lesson which we need to. From my own experience, I believe these lessons come up with more intensity as time progresses, nearly as a wake up call, if you like.

Orna,

Too true. :)

Re: Karma

Another thought on karma, is that I think my aunt and uncle are playing out karma with each other at the moment. My aunt has had a bad back for years, and has been told my specialists etc how they are surprised that she is not in a wheelchair. The only reason she isn't is through willpower (her words). This obviously had an impact on my uncle, or so I believe. Anyhow, now my uncle is ill with a brain tumour which is terminal. I can't help but wonder if this is karma being played out, of balancing the give and take, within their current lifetime.

Also, the likes of Mozart who were child genuises, is more than likely due to past life incarnations too IMHO.

Re: Karma

Hi Dragonfly (and Orna!)
thanks for sharing the info on Karma.
Karma is a Hindu/Buddhist term that actually translates as action, any sort of action (thought, deed, mind etc). Everytime I think about that I get overwhelmed at the immensity of it all so I always picture it as a river that pushes us along, our actions in the river help us decide where we go and what we run into (Owiiee a rock!). The best thing we can do is stop pushing and surrender to it. in other words, forgive (like you said) and show compassion for the others that are bobbing along with us. Everytime we turn around and try to fight the current of compassion we end up expending way more energy....

Just my thoughts on this lovely Wednesday morning!

Re: Karma

Thanks Orna, Laiste,

Loved all of your replies. Staying with the water theme, Karma is like floating in many currents and in deep water. :) As long as you float and don't struggle, you'll just flow along - and certainly watch out for the rocks! lol!

Thanks for all your thoughts, if you have anymore, please share!

With love,
Dragonfly

Re: Karma

Another thought.

One things I have found, is that the more my spirituality has developed, the more people want to try and challenge my beliefs, asking me to prove that my beliefs are real etc. Anyway, my thoughts on this, is that isn't this just karma re-enacting itself, from when witches in days gone by, were assasinated, but in a modern day version of this.

Re: Karma

Orna,

When other people challenge my beliefs, I find that it gives me a chance to reevaluate them and then usually make them stronger. :) Through adversity we find strength.

Much love,
Dragonfly

Re: Karma

You know something else I wonder about are the souls from the Holocaust...I wonder what sort of karma they will bring to their next wheel-turn.
