Froudian Goblin Poems

Hi all,

I would like to try out a few Goblin Poems. I hope you enjoy. Here is #1:

FREE BREGG THE POET! [Goblins of Labyrinth]

O Bregg the Poet of Labyrinth
Where do you reside?
I would like to visit you
My mentor and my guide.

The Goblin that I most admire
Whose verse I do extol!
I’ve read your works from front to back
For I’m a BiblioTroll.

Wretched and conflicted friend
I’m saddened by your plight
That your alter ego
Gives other goblins fright.

O poet of the darkened-heart
This evil Fitch must cease
To possess your better self
Your soul he must release!

Perhaps an exorcism,
Or a witch’s brew
Could kill the sickening stench
That haunts you through-and-through

Could you eat a sweeter root?
Or scrumptious garlic clove?
Or yummy little ratty-rats
Best cooked on a stove.

There’s certainly more wholesome food
Than gruesome, stinky Yeurrrrrrch!
Have you tried a toadstool mush
With moldy bark of birch!?

May I suggest a beverage
Of blended fairy-ade
Mix twenty with ten rabbit eyes
No better drink was made!

Together, we might find some Twarks
Their little eggs we’ll chew
But if that remains impossible
I’ll make salamander stew.

If readers could get close to you
We’d form a poets’ ring!
And learn from the great master
If we would not smell THAT THING!

Re: Froudian Goblin Poems

Hi there Bibliotroll Jack,

Welcome

Great poem, I'd be interested to read more if you would like to post them. I'm keen to hear more tales of the Goblins. I haven't got around to reading your poem on the Froud website but will let you know what I think when I get a chance to read it.

Wishes of the very best kind

Spriggan

Re: Froudian Goblin Poems

hi there!
LOL
That is a great poem! It reminded me of some of Lewis Carroll's.
Thank you so much for sharing it, you made my day!

Peace

Re: Froudian Goblin Poems

Hi Spriggan,

Thanks for the feedback. I remember going to the theater to see Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. I am just getting into The Frouds' books now [although I did have a copy of Pressed Faeries"]. I love the Goblins. They are a lot of fun...and invite poets who lean towards 'fun poetry' to write goblin-poems. I am going to enter a new one.

Cheers,
Theo

Re: Froudian Goblin Poems

Hi Laiste,

I love Lewis Carroll. That's, indeed, a very nice compliment. I am going to enter two more 'carroll-like' poems. Thanks a bunch!

Cheers,

The Culinary Arts of Weech and Stench [Goblins of Labyrinth]

My name is Weech, I like to cook
The slimies from the swamp I took
The Goblins know me very well
My recipes are in no book

Everything I make is browned
In brown gravy all is drowned
I tried a white sauce made of clams
Though rotted well, Bregg just frowned

Now I cook for poets' ring
Since Breggie lost his Yeurrrrchy sting
He eats only worms and frogs
And heaps of brown stuff that I bring!

Once a year, for wordsy-troupe
I’ll make a luscious Brownie soup
This dish, of course, is very rare
Ten Brownies needed for each scoop!

I’d like to try a human child
I hear their flesh is much too mild
They might be good with swampy-rats
And spicey Elfies from the wild

For drinks I make a Faerie-Ade
Aged underground for one decade
Garnished with some toadstool rot
And yummie roachies that I slayed.

My assistant, stinky-Stench
Drains the bunnies on his bench
And with the juice he makes a beer
For Goblins’ thirst is hard to quench.

That oozey, drippy, putrid fool
Sometimes can’t control his drool
“Do not waste!” I shout in rage
“Go stand above the gravy pool!”

The poets must eat once an hour
Writing rhymes takes all their power
Great quantities of bunny-beer
In woody mugsies they devour!

We have a fallen-Fairy slave
We found hiding in a cave
It serves the Goblins all day long
Sings Impy songs the poets crave

Our realm’s culture and high art
Comes from Goblins, versie-smart
But they would starve were I not here
Weech knows the way to Goblins’ heart!

The Topsy Turvy Teop [Faeries Oracle]

I want to write a meop today
Or do I need a game to play?
Perhaps some ssehc or gammon-back
Or was it?...WHAT did you just say?

Should I read a story cook?
Or cook a dish of sauteed-book?
O, what strange and flustered rhyme!
How RUDE that you just gave that look!

My shirt won’t fit upon my legs
I’m having trouble laying eggs
My pet cat just flew away
My oars are slipping from their pegs.

O Topsie Turvets, show me how
To get milk from my green cow
That’s standing in the living room
With rooster, sheep, and purple sow

Or is it Goblin, Troll, and Gnome
That make their beds in my new home?
I found dead Brownies in my tub
They died in soapy foamy-foam.

Stevrut Eispot is my name
The things I see don’t look the same
Sideup-Down or syawedis
Where I went, or when I came?

I can't take this so more much
I need the fairies healie-touch
Topsie Turvets, with your insight
I’ll write more words, and such, and such….

So fill my brain and clear my thought
With the Oracle that you brought
With faeries' wisdom I'll become
Imaginative and less distraught!

Let's hope tomorrow's not today
And from my mind I've cleared the hay
But Spotsie Truvets, don't go far
For poets often lose their way.

LOL Those are Brilliant!
I really like the Topsie Turvies one...I've had many days like that.

Thank you again for sharing.

Happy Spring time!

Pöngö’s Lament [Goblins of Labyrinth]

I’m Pöngö with a history
But it’s not written down for me
This poem I write for you to see
The Pöngö that I want to be

My family has a home somewhere
I think…they might…I’m not aware
I’d like to know, but do you care?
Don’t laugh at me! You best beware!

My interests?…well, I just don’t know
For Mr. Froud just wouldn’t show
Any past where I could go
I just wander to-and-fro

Do I guard the Goblin King?
That would explain the armor-thing
Why am I in poet’s ring?
How did I write this verse I sing?

O, Master Bregg, help fill my page
Left empty by THAT Goblin sage
Whose art, I’m told, is all the rage
He did not like me much, I’d wage!
