Re: Amulet?

okay, conglomerate of what I remember and what I figured out last night. I will start out by saying that this symbol is far more dark than the movie characterization (I'm not slamming David Bowie, I loved it!) and, perhaps for the sake of the young it's a good thing. It seems to be attached to a _real_ personage......oh my......definitely _not_ the heartthrob. The middle is recognizable from other Froud work as a uniform yin-yang: the symbol of the embryotic thought, the dream, and connotates great power thereof. However this is surrounded by a double sickle rising to a point, which can mean a lot of things simultaneously (typical fae communication, really). The website said that it gave off a devilish aspect because it looked a bit like horns - elaboration: (I'm hurrying through this - I only have fifteen minutes, bear with) the horn has been a symbol of power forever, in this case it almost looks like stylized talons as well (the owl thing). They rise to a unity, a concentration of consciousness, intent, and incredible intelligence. This is no gift, it comes at great price and requires complete dominion, almost parasitic in a huge sense. the precious metals also indicae further the essence and personality of the owner (emphasized because it keeps changing - watch closely). This is most obvious in the Escher Room where the points turn up - his hackles are finally raised like a wolf, the dream ready to inject itself on the unwilling. Gold speaks of solidity and solidarity, especially on the physical plane while silver is more mutable and likely to change and create change (besides the esoteric connections) I don't remember offhand but pay attention to when the two parts change, it's extremely psychological and makes the interpretation make more sense. Also, a small point of contention: he isn't wearing it in the Ballroom scene - he's wearing a jeweled owl clasp at his throat. Why? Is it because he's in the dream, in the midst of the symbol, and therefore can't wear it? Or is it because it is such a powerful symbol he's afraid it will jog her memory? Or does _he_ need the protection of his totem in such a malliable world? In the real context, it creates terrified reverence and submission to power simply due to its nature - and Jareth's smarter subjects show this readily enough. Last point: the middle of it has _two_ embryos as all those spheres have - the numerological symbol of communication - the power to pass the dream on. Please tell me if I missed anything (Victoria, sorry I haven't emailed, let me get my brass quintet written tonight and I'll try tomorrow!)
