Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Dumfermline Scan

My wee girl came home with a form for school looking for sponsorship. There is nothing new in that and generally the money is for new library books or something else worthwhile. This one was for the DAFC Community Inflatable Challenge. Cutting a long letter short, Dunfermline Athletic want the kids to get sponsored for taking part in two very short events (they kick a ball 6 times into a couple of inflatables). If you don't get sponsored, then you don't get to take part.

Half of the money raised goes to the school. It doesn't say where the other half of the money is going, but needless to say the starving in Africa needn't get the forks and knives out.

It is backed by Fife Council's "Active Schools" group. Therefore, Fife Council are backing a campaign to raise money for Dunfermline Athletic.

It is clearly a Fifewide campaign as we stay near the Tay bridge and could not be further from Dunfermline.

Active Schools obviously have access to all school children in Fife. There are 4000 kids in each year group. If even half the kids in Fife were to take part, raising an average of £5 each, Dunfermline Athletic will make £70,000. Not bad for 6 kicks of a ball. It is all the better when you consider the emotional blackmail that goes with this. Can I stop my wee girl from taking part and then she has to watch all of her friends playing? Such events should be free and inclusive to all.

I think that this is a con, and Fife Council are very poor for not only agreeing to it but exposing all school kids in Fife to it as well.
