Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

New Ground - Planning Permission

I may be slower than 90 minutes at Starks Park but, whilst reading the programme for Tuesday, there is a message from The Chairman, which includes saying that planning permission for the proposed new ground has not been approved.

I can't recall seeing or hearing anything on this and with the programme being for Boxing Day, was anything said at the time.

Apologies in advance if things had been posted, etc but would be interested on reasons why,etc

Re: New Ground - Planning Permission

So after all the hoo ha about nothing, after no communication ever, that is what this has amounted to, nothing!!! Great we can get back to asking the real questions again. Are we still owned by Rankine's wee niece??

Re: New Ground - Planning Permission

I was really surprised to see that in the programme to given that Id heard zilch about it and it didnt even seem to have been covered in the East Fife Mail.

Surprising since planning decisions are usually routinely covered by the EFM and this was previoulsy a big story in the paper.

Maybe the Pars supporting local councilllor who chairs the committee buried some bad news amid all the hun focused hoo ha?

Re: New Ground - Planning Permission

A tiny glimmer of hope for a new ground and all the opportunities this was to have brought now appears to have been extinguished.

Why has there been no detailed statement/press release/meeting to explain to the fans where we go from here?

Answers on a postcard please!

Re: New Ground - Planning Permission

We need to have a fans rep on the board to communicate with the fans.

Re: New Ground - Planning Permission

But did we expect anything else? Public relations and communication has historically been appalling at this club and this regime is as bad as any previous one in this respect.

Re: New Ground - Planning Permission

Whats if we do get up to the First Division with the current stand we have, are we going to be able to accommodate both set of fans with the likes of Ayr & etc or will we have to ground share for a season with Dunfermline?

unless Barr's construstion comes doon to take out the breeze bloke wall behind one of the goals or build a wee half stand somewhere if possible.

Re: New Ground - Planning Permission

Passed by Warout stadium the other day.Tidy wee stand, a decent sized function suite/bar ( not the piss poor facilities we currently have) and potential for easy insertion of terracing on the existing banking round the ground. Plenty room for parking and other developments. With my guess that around 60% of our hardcore fans are living outwith methil would such a move be a bad thing and more achievable than the other pies inn the sky we get sold. Astroturf there would mean Glens could ground share and we have a tie up with them for loans youth players etc.

Re: New Ground - Planning Permission

Doesn't history repeat itself! We got the option to go to Warout when it was built. We also got the option to go to Over Stenton a few years back.
I agree that many of the fans i Leven / Methil / Buckhaven, but we are East Fife FC, not Central Fife FC.
Stay put and develop, or move to Windygates Road, but let's stay east of Milton of Balgonie......

Re: New Ground - Planning Permission

Was an application for planning permission ever made? I am not aware of one.

The application will be a matter of public record. If it actually exists.

There is, Mr Eugene Clarke, and he does a not bad job!!
If you look at previous posts, and in the programme, it's easy to contact him.

Re: New Ground - Planning Permission

I checked out Fife Planning online there's no record of any application being made for a football ground in the Windgates Road area. Maybe Muir have just dropped the idea.

Why contact him? Is it a secret? It's in the interests of all fans. It's not even on the fecking website. Now we're hearing that we didn't even apply for planning permission. So what was in programme and who gave the info? Come on Mr Clarke, what is happening at our club????

Re: New Ground - Planning Permission

This was always pie in the sky and a mere pipe dream.
Was never going to happen and those gullible enough to believe it should grow a pair.

Think you'll find that there was no "we" ie East Fife.
The planning application was to be made by MUIR CONSTRUCTION.
In my opinion this NEW GROUND was NEVER going to happen as the EF dock site is not zoned for housing in the Council local area plan and Muir Construction is primarily a builder of houses with add-ons of cre homes and health centres as sweeteners.

Given that EF is now staying at HARBOUR VIEW, of more concern should be what plans the club has,if any,to dispose of any surplus land which it currently owns, and what it proposes to do with the resultant proceeds.
I was not at the Trust AGM but understand that a club Director intimated that there were plans for an ALL-WEATHER pitch.
Is this correct ? and would there be any surplus for terracing?
As others have already stated, communications between club and supporters have never been great.
Perhaps this is an opportunity for a statement from the club to intimate what the future holds for ground development at Bayview.

Re: New Ground - Planning Permission

Good post Sammy.

What about it Board? I think we should be told.

Re: New Ground - Planning Permission

If it was never going to happen and it was a near impossibility to get planning permission (as Sammy quite rightly says), then why did the Club unveil these pipe-dream plans to the press and fans ?

The club were forced into unveiling the plans as the BBC were breaking the story. The club did not want to make an anouncement at that time as there was nothing to anounce.

Irrespective of the BBC leak, why unveil something that the Club knew was never going to happen ? It makes no sense.
