Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Was "informed " of this this morning. Was then told who mentioned it!

Think I'll wait on official confirmation . .

Re: Assistant

Confirmation on the Official website

Re: Assistant

Former Dundee United, Queen of the South and Dundee manager Gordon Chisholm has been appointed assistant to Gordon Durie at Bayview Stadium.

Gordon brings a wealth of football experience with him, having played Senior football at the highest level in both Scotland and England as well as having been involved with the management of several Scottish Clubs. He can also boast the possibly unique feat of having played in both the English and Scottish League Cup Finals in the same season!

A central defender during his playing days, Gordon signed for Sunderland from Glasgow Juvenile side Possil YM in September 1976. After seven seasons at RokerPark, Gordon moved north to join Hibs in September 1985, where he stayed for two seasons before signing for Dundee in September 1987.

After five seasons at DensPark, Gordon had a brief spell with Partick Thistle before retiring from the Senior game as a player and moving into management as assistant to Ian McCall at Firhill.

He held the position of McCall’s assistant at several Scottish clubs including Dundee United, before taking over as caretaker manager at Tannadice following McCall’s sacking in 2005. Almost immediately, Gordon landed the SPL Manager of the Month award for April 2005 following a series of favourable results, despite the fact he was still doing the job as caretaker!

Gordon was then handed the United job on a permanent basis, but was sacked less than a year later despite having taken United to the Scottish Cup Final and into Europe.

Gordon then re-joined Ian McCall as assistant manager at Queen of the South, where again he replaced McCall in the manager’s seat in 2007. After over four years at Palmerston, during which time he guided the ‘Doonhamers’ to their first-ever Scottish Cup Final in 2008 and also their first-ever appearance in European competition, Gordon moved on to take charge of Dundee for a brief spell before becoming a casualty of the Dens Park club’s entry into administration in 2010.

Gordon Chisholm is a highly respected figure in Scottish football circles, and manager Gordon Durie and the board of directors are confident he will be a great asset to the club. Welcome to Bayview, Gordon!

Re: Assistant

Take it Dodds isn't giving up his weekend post?

Gordon Chisholm is a very good appointment. We may not make the play offs (not given up hope!) but with a sound management team, could bring new faces in next season.

Good appointment

Re: Assistant

Great appointment. Chisholm had Dundee Utd and QoS in Scottish Cup Finals. Well done Jukebox and the Club!

I'm getting a good feeling about this. Onwards and upwards. This sounds like appointments for going forward. Hope the regular critics will give them a chance and not start their moaning on a bad day.

Re: Assistant

Positive appointments, will give the inexperienced Durie a helping hand. Good luck to the new Management Team

Re: Assistant

Has Billy Dodds been appointed as coach? Haven't seen any mention of this in any "official" report.

Re: Assistant

According to Hissy on Twitter Dodds will be helping on an occasional basis with some training sessions, not an official appointment.

Re: Assistant

Hiya Billy, hiya pal!........

Re: Assistant

All the best to the new management team.

Re: Assistant

Great news for the future. Also great to see that someone of his stature clearly see's potential in our club.

Re: Assistant

Think some lessons have been learned from the Craw days.Seagull having a mentor beside him makes perfect sense .

Re: Assistant

Something to cheer about and us beaten the Sons for the first time this season is positive, Great news that Durie has brought in Chisholm hopefully Billy can join us on Permanant basis too hopefully after the end of the season, surely he has missed the game for sometime now since he was part of Chisholm at both Dundee & QOS backroom team.

With this new look management team in place we can look for better things and if we dont make the play-offs then there is always next season. Wish the team well ahead, Mon The Fife!
