Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Re: Players signed for next season???

You clearly don't come to the games.

Michael Brown has been superb ever since coming in for Ridgers. How you can blame him for Cowdens goal is beyond me. To call it a back pass is laughable. It was more like a shot from McCormack!

You arse I do go to every game to see what am talking about and still stay in Glasgow but his decision making are pish we were a better team when Collier came on the field and only let in one goal which was unlucky you tell me thats no dogey mate time to move on me thinks
He isnt that better than Ridgers least we got to Kilmarnock and broon was a bench warmer at that point

Re: Players signed for next season???

Eh , no son, some strange ones there like!!!

Re: Players signed for next season???

Cambuslang Fifer
I would keep next season...

Andy Collier - came on as a sub today and played brill
Andy Cook - for his recently performaces due to his current postion at left-back
Darren McCormack - Played at Hibs been there and done it
Darren Smith - very good in the middle never gives up
Scott Durie - dad's son
Ryan Wallace - I hope he does stay
Scott Daziel - injury at the start of the season kept the player back but has been building on his career.
Robert Sloan - his goals during the season, his experience could help other players next season

The rest can go if they want i widny loose my sleep over them....

Want to see...

COLIN SAMUEL Spoke to him after the arbroath game in the office today and he signed my programme and i goes ye should sign for us and he hope he does, scored today against us and has played for Falkirk, Dundee Utd and etc...

Kevin Byers Dunno if he can cut it now likes.
Andy Graham - my old college teacher hink he is at Morton no sure after he left Hamilton.
Paul McManus - another scorer and if Wallace leaves he could be a great addition.
Jack Werndly - On-Loan at Albion Rovers from Rangers
Jamie Bain - Airdrie utd
Sean Lynch - Airdrie Utd
Tam McManus - Ayr utd

Ive heard Kevin Byers is hanging up his boots after this season.Which is now i guess.

Re: Players signed for next season???

Honestly never heard as much nonsense as this in my life, the amount of points Brown has saved us over the past season or 2 is incredible. To say he is a "bench warmer" is beyond belief! Stevie Campbell is probably our most consistent performer also. Between him and Smith for captain next year imo!

Re: Players signed for next season???

Andy Collier did well yesterday but when he was on loan at Glenrothes Juniors, he was less than convincing. He may well develop into a very good goalkeeper but let's not go overboard. To suggest he is better than Broony based on 60 minutes of playing time is ridiculous. Let's just see who re- signs for next season and give them our full backing. Any player who has been offered a contract for next season will not exactly be encouraged by comments made on this forum.

Re: Players signed for next season???

Who was our goalkeeper when we beat Dunfermline

Re: Players signed for next season???

Michael Brown has been on the whole immense for East Fife over the last couple of seasons.
His shot stopping has been excellent. Admittedly he has made a few mistakes, but for Gods sake if he didnt then he would be in the English Premiership not at East Fife!!!

This.

Was never a fan of Michael Brown at the start, but for the past couple of seasons he has been brilliant. I think he would make an excellent captain. Hope we get another couple of seasons out of him at least.

Re: Players signed for next season???

Wasn't a fan of Brown and slated him a few times before but I actualy think he has come on leaps and bounds, some of his decision making is bad but that's why he plays at EF. Hopefuly Durie and Chisolm can use there contacts in the game and build us a decent squad for next season.

Re: Players signed for next season???

hopefully keep the spine of the team ,build it around Brown,Campbell,Smith,Sloan and wallace(doubtful but we'll see)

Its clear that other teams are spending that bit extra on better players...Dargo ,Deuchar,Samuel Swankie. Big gamble for these clubs but wondering will The Fife gamble for a promotion push next season?

Re: Players signed for next season???

Look at most of the highlights and you will see that most of the goals we concede come from Mr Stevie Campbell. He cost us at Airdrie last week and previous weeks too. Good player but over-rated. Will get slaughtered for this but if you watch highlights you will be honest about it too

Re: Players signed for next season???

Micheal Brown has been immense for a couple of seasons, and won The Player of the Year from The Travel Club last season,me and Micheal did not see eye to eye at the start but he would be the first player I would pick every game, and Darren Smith for our Captain,I will be sad to see a lot of players go and hissy was one of my favourites, I would like to wish all the players who are leaving all the best, and Boaby lover will miss Bobby.Good Luck Lads for the future and thanks for some memorable great games and goals.
Thanks from Kenny and Becky.

Re: Players signed for next season???

Sign that Skivington lassie from the ladies team. Always scoring for them.

MOST OF THE GOALS ARE HIS FAULT????
never the fault of the forward miscontrolling the ball or the midfielder thats missed his tackle/gave the ball away cheaply or full back thats not prevented the cross !

For goodness sake, lets blame everybody else rather than Campbell. His job is to defend and I remain to be convinced. I agree that Campbell is over-rated. I would agree that he is no bad in the air and wins his fair share 30 YARDS FROM GOAL but oh dear in the penalty box, he is more often than not posted missing. He then looks to blame others and not take responsibility. It is just as well he has a bit of pace to make up for his mistakes. Good when he has time on the ball and no one is near him. But a wee bit pressure, I worry. His distribution even with no pressure is not the greatest. No I am not a fan. And yes, I have seen nearly all the games this year.

Re: Players signed for next season???

Why not just wait and see who we have next year and give them our backing. Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion and yes opinions will differ. We could all make cases for and against players at the Club but any players who have been offered a contract for next season or indeed players who we try to bring in are hardly going to be enthusiastic at the prospect based on this forum. Let's remember the position our Club finds itself and the players we sign are there for a reason - they are not good enough for the top flight - why ? Because they are not as skilful, they make more errors, they are less consistent. Let the Management bring in the best players they can on the budget they are given and give them our backing.

Re: Players signed for next season???

I was having a look at the suggestions for potential signing and there are some really good ideas, but it made me think, doese anybody else feel that our team this year was lacking a wee bit of physical presence. Particularly in midfield i've felt we have come up against teams who have been able to bully us off the ball a bit too easily. I'm not saying we need to fill the team full of giants, but maybe a couple of bruisers in the team wouldnt be a bad idea.
Some of the better games i have seen hisplop play this year was when he was able to use his height to win the flick ons, and push defenders about a bit.

Re: Players signed for next season???

Are you joking !!! I have been at most of the games this season and stevie campbell has been our best performer along with smith and wallace. He reads the game very well wins his headers and tackles you clearly have never played football before if you cant see this!!

Not just physical strength but mental toughness too. I see some pretty fragile characters out there, some of whom appear to lack any spirit at all when things start to go awry on the pitch and who take it personally at the slightest bit of negativity coming from the crowd. Guys who can't hack it and cannot handle a bit of rough can frankly go elsewhere as far as I'm concerned.

We need to get some mentally strong players into the club, guys that can demonstrate a bit of leadership and who aren't going to pathetically cry into their twitter accounts when the going gets tough. Where are the Davie Clarke's, the Stevie Kirk's, the Colin Methven's, the Jim McLaren's, the Stewart Burgess's these days?

Re: Players signed for next season???

The Gordon's should hold The Wullie Broon Factor auditions this summer. We're due a big hard bastard player. Wullie Broon is God - lets sign Jesus.

Re: Players signed for next season???

What we do need is to improve on is our defensive performances. Cowdenbeath won the title on the back of a sound defensive record with only 29 goals conceded. Compare than with virtually everyone else in the league including ourselves. We need to be much harder to beat first and foremost. That may not be to evryone's liking as it will entail a more pragmatic approach to games but history tells us you can't succeed if you concede goals at the rate we have done in recent seasons. Start building a team from the back and the rest will take of itself.

Agree that we need to be harder to beat and that the goals against in recent seasons has been poor but the as any manager will say ..defending starts from the front,Strikers who can hold up a ball...and midfielders especially wide midfielders have to track back, be able to tackle and help out the full back, we only had 1 midfielder who could tackle and win the ball regularly this season

For the 2nd season in a row i fear US getting a corner as the delivery is usually poor and we end up caught on the counter, set pieces are crucial in the game and apart from Sloans direct free-kicks we dont look like scoring from set plays.

No, I can assure you I am not joking. Best performer!! Lets not go overboard, for goodness sake! We must be looking for different things or have different standards and expectations. And yes, I have played the game. Have you? If you have, we will have to agree to disagree. For example, he is too easily bullied by opposing forwards. He does not let the opposition forwards know they are in a game. He must be a joy to play against from what I have seen!

I would agree with you about Smith and Wallace but we are poles apart as far as Campbell is concerned. Lets see what happens next season. Will we be as tight at the back as this season ((NOT!!)? As you have seen most games, as I have, you must accept that Campbell and co. have not defended as well as they should have but, of course, that will be everybody else's fault (forwards, midfield, full backs, goalie, subs) not your hero!

Re: Players signed for next season???

Look at the 3 - 2 - 1 over the last number of games and Campbell is in it every week.

I go to every game and he is best defender we have and always makes himself available to take the ball.

Is everybody wrong except you ?

I am only offering my opinion like everyone else, so lets move on. May be my standards/expectations are different so Campbell would defo not be my first choice defender. But the manager has decided to keep him on so lets see what happens next season. Have a happy close season to one and all.

Re: Players signed for next season???

Sounds like Ryan Wallace is joining Falkirk Rumour has it the deal is almost done Hope it's not true
