Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Barry Robson Interview

Barry Robson officially joined Vancouver Whitecaps last week (although he can't play until July 4th).

I sat down with him on Thursday and had a chat about why he moved over to Major League Soccer, the current state of Scottish football and why other Scots may soon be following him across the Atlantic.

Have a read...

If you enjoy it, share it on any other sites you're on please!

I'm going to be having another chat with him soon to do a career encompassing interview, including his time at Caley and Forfar.

If there's anything you want to ask him, let me know.

His first ever professional goal was against East Fife up at Inverness in December 1997.

His next one will be his 100th.

Apart from Barry himself, I'm likely to be the only person to witness both!

Re: Barry Robson Interview

Good interview GoF, I hope he does well. The league appears to be taking off, and I can see the lure of heading to Canada, so it's happy days by the look of it....

Re: Barry Robson Interview

Just curious to know who the other 4 Scots are currently playing in the competition.

Actually I made a boob and there's five as Montreal have a young guy that was born in Scotland and moved to the US in his early teens (Calum Mallace).

The others are:

- Kris Boyd is at Portland. I think he's struggled a bit but he does have 5 goals in 14 games, so it's all in the eye of the beholder.

- Adam Moffat is with Houston. Lost in MLS Cup final to Beckham's Galaxy last year. Played against the Fife for Elgin a couple of times before the Cpas current manager (Martin Rennie) took him over to the US, where he's stayed ever since and is doing really well.

Here's an interview I did with him last year - http://aftncanada.blogspot.ca/2011/08/houstons-adam-moffat-speaks-of-exciting.html

- Former Celtic and Aberdeen player Jamie Smith is with Colorado. Had a season ending knee injury in 2009 and has been in and out of the team since.

- Portland have another former Ranger in Steven Smith. Just joined them this season in April. Been not bad so far.

If you want to keep an eye on some Scottish management talent, it's worth watching the Whitecaps.

Our manager is Martin Rennie who was a junior player with Boness and Rosyth. One to watch for the future and highly though of. Has completely turned our season around from finishing bottom last season.

His assistant is former Jambo and Fife lad Paul Ritchie. Had a few good chats with him so far. He's happy to see another Glenrothes lad!
