Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Hibernian F.C. Match Reports
Pre-season Challenge Match
East Fife 0 Hibernian 2
Saturday 14th July 2012
Hibernian opened their pre-season campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory over East Fife in Methill this afternoon.
Second half goals from Ivan Sproule and debutant Tim Clancy earned the Easter Road men victory in a game they dominated from start-to-finish.
Hibs created and wasted a host of gilt-edged opportunities throughout the 90 minutes, yet rarely appeared threatened by the Fifers.
Manager Pat Fenlon handed debuts to goalkeeper Ben Williams, defender Clancy and midfielder Paul Cairney, whilst ex-Hearts man, Alan Maybury, was listed amongst the substitutes.
The Edinburgh side were first to threaten as Sproule shot just over the crossbar and moments later David Wotherspoon was just off target with a rasping low drive.
East Fife created their first chance on 23 minutes as Darren Smith headed Scott Durie's corner kick straight into the arms of Williamson.
At the other end Hibs should've opened the scoring when Cairney's cross from the left found Sproule only for his strike to deflect off Eoin Doyle and into the grateful arms of goalkeeper Michael Brown.
Against the run of play East Fife almost snatched the opening goal when Craig Johnstone did well to get beyond Clancy before looping a cross-cum-shot high over Williams' head and back into play off the crossbar.
Wotherspoon, playing a more advanced role, wasn't too far away with a dipping free kick before Williams comfortably gathered efforts from Darren Smith and Ian Williamson.
In the final action of a fast-paced first period, Doyle was just unable to turn in a Cairney shot that fizzed past the far post.
Halt-time substitute Isaiah Osbourne looked in a menacing mood after the break and brought out a fine save from Brown as Hibs threatened.
The breakthrough came in the 52 minute when Cairney's cross was missed by Ross Caldwell but fell perfectly for Sproule to smash into the far corner of the net and give his side a well-deserved lead.
Osbourne once again stung the hands of Brown before Hibs twice wasted glorious opportunities to increase their lead.
On each occasion, first Wotherspoon and then Sproule, were put clean through on goal only to waste the opportunity presented to them.
East Fife's best chance came in the 68th minute when Durie's cross found Colin Samuel unmarked at the back post, however instead of heading towards goal the striker attempted to cushion the ball on his chest and it bounced safely into the grateful arms of Calum Antell.
With 12 minutes remaining Hibs secured victory when Clancy ensure it was a debut to remember with a sensation curling free kick that found the top right hand corner of the net and left Brown rooted to the spot.
Hibs should have made it three in the closing moments when Caldwell's cut-back found Daniel Handling inside the penalty area, but with the goal at his mercy he struck the trailing leg of Durie and the ball went behind.
East Fife: Brown, Durie, Johnstone (Malcolm 46'), White, McCormack (Brewster 67'), Smith (Jamieson 75'), Williamson, Muir, Wardlaw (Gordon 85'), Samuel (King 75'), McBride (Martin 87'). Substitute not used: Collier.
Hibernian: Williams (Antell 62'), Clancy, Hanlon (Booth 60'), Stevenson (Monaghan 62'), Stephens (Maybury 46'), McPake, Cairney (Kujabi 67'), Claros (Osbourne 46'), Doyle (Caldwell 46'), Wotherspoon (Handling 84'), Sproule (Stanton 78').Substitutes all used.
Referee: Gavin Duncan.

Re: Hibs game

Looks like Broony had a stormer in goal.....well might have done had he been feckin playing!!! fuds

N was this guy even at the game it was probably anything but comfy for them as there was nothing in it the first half when both teams had pretty much there 1st teams out!!! fud again!

all my own opinion of course lololol

Re: Hibs game

Hibs better hope more teams go bust this season or they're doomed, they were crap.
Thought the 1st half was level and overall thought East Fife played quite good football.
Wardlaw and Samuel played closer together and linked up ok.
Williamson has impressed me in the last 2 games, always looking for a pass and making himself available, looks quality for the 2nd Div.
Good to see our corner taker (McBride) able to put in decent crosses unlike our distribution last season from them.
Bob Malcolm looked better today and his passing is better than any other player we have in the back 4..obviously his pace is a problem but wont be facing SPL attackers week in-week out.

Poor turn out from Fife fans today...thankfully the hibs fans turned up to boost the attendance

Re: Hibs game

has any of the players on trial been offered a contract or signed ?

Re: Hibs game

Heard Samuel and Wiliamson just playing to keep match fit as looking for other clubs with the latter looking for a full time contract. To be honest Samuel makes Bobby Man look anorexic.

Re: Hibs game

Samuel was awful. Bob Malcolm not much better. If we have the funds then it is essential we get Iain Williamson in, very impressed with him.

Re: Hibs game

I'm with you mini, I don't remember Broony playing.

Re: Hibs game

andy collier played in goals broony wasnt even on the subs bench.

Re: Hibs game

I think you'll find that Broony was on the original teamsheet given to the press & Andy Collier was a late replacement

Would love to see us sign Williamson. Samuel may be decent if he gets fully fit and motivated. If it is true they are only using us to get fit we should send them packing. Surely The Gaffer should be getting signed or potential players fully fit for the season ahead.
Anyone know why Cook, Sloan and Broony have been missing from the recent games ?

Re: Hibs game

Cooky in USA on coaching course, Sloany injured & I take it Broony carrying knock so not risked on Saturday
