Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Re: falkirk game

Div Muir hit a cracker off the post from 25 yards. Such power was rewarded by Mr Marshall who announced the players name. First time I've heard an announcement for an "non goal" play? Brilliant Dave. That's what footballs all about.

Re: falkirk game

Dave was on good form today announcing that he'd replaced Cazza as she'd ran off with dannybhoy from the aftn forum.

Re: falkirk game

Samuel looks like he banning the goals in now. Well done Samuel two goals out of four at the Fife!

Re: falkirk game

samuel looks real 'solid' up front..Jamieson had a good 90 mins today.
good game against a young Falkirk team and real pleasing to see young Fife players coming on and playing well.

Got a bad feeling that the Board are going to try and do this season on the cheap...extra money coming in from cup game...all the talk of terrace at the back of the 1 of the goals, i've already wrote on a previous post that this season we can get either the stadium ready or a decent team on the pitch for promotion to what would be an attractive fixture list in the 1st division, but i fear we're just treading water with the hope and ambitions of the play-offs again...C'mon Board open the biscuit tin

I think we should concentrate on sorting out decent contracts for the players we want to keep on. We must not go down. Terracing can wait until we're sure what division we'll be in next season. As high a capacity as we can afford, even if it means it's uncovered for now. But it should be built across from the main stand so that it can be used by either the home or away support, or both. No point building it all in the home end, being unable to fill it, and having potentially thousands of away fans locked out!

Re: falkirk game

Thought we played some nice football at times and had control of the game throughout.
One outstanding save from Broony on to the bar in the 1st H and a couple of decent saves from Collier in the second but EF had more and better chances and another goal or two wouldn't have flattered us.

Ok it was a young FFC side but combined with the decent performance against Hibs and a good win at Pars, the last few run outs give me a good feeling about how Durie and Chissy are developing this side.
Both the 4-4-2 and the 3-5-2 versions of the side look pretty good.

Willingness to play from the back is a nice addition.

This report from the FFC forum sounds like a different game to me.

I was there. Nothing at all in the game.
Technically as you would expect we were the better side with Dale Fulton and Lewis Small the best for me.
McGeever looks the dogs when he came on later

Re: falkirk game

Here's the official FFC website report - well written and a pretty well balanced report it is too.

Youngsters Give Good Account Of Themselves - REPORT POSTED

Blue skies greeted the Bairns as they arrived in Methil for today’s pre-season clash with East Fife. With the team also in action tomorrow against Middlesborough, manager Steven Pressley took the opportunity to see how some of his younger charges would fare against experienced opposition. The Bairns lined up in 4-4-1-1 formation with Thomas Grant tucked in behind lead striker Jordan White.

Falkirk almost took an early lead with 9 minutes on the clock when White was put clear down the right wing. The tall frontman cut into the inside channel and curled a shot narrowly over the far away top corner with Brown in the home goal left helpless. East Fife replied just a few minutes later though with Sean Jamieson showing some neat footwork to lose his marker and his powerful 19 yard strike brought an assured save from Graham Bowman in the Falkirk goal. The young keeper showed good hands again after 22 minutes when Jamieson spun Dale Fulton and fired in a ferocious shot from 15 yards but Bowman did well to hold under his bar.

The hosts kept up the pressure and should have gone ahead after 28 minutes but more heroics from Bowman denied the Methil men. Jamieson fed the ball into the box to ex-Bairn Collin Samuel and he pivoted in the box before letting loose from 12 yards with a shot destined for the bottom corner, Bowman produced a spectacular stop as he flung himself full-length to divert the ball onto the post. The rebound fell at the feet of David Muir but to the relief of the away fans he somehow shot wide from 4 yards with the young keeper stranded on the deck. This provoked an immediate response from Falkirk as they burst up the park and as a cross was sent in from the left-flank there was captain Darren Dods to rise above the East Fife defence and crash a powerful header off the bar with Brown beaten. Thomas Grant then had a good curling effort saved by Brown following a neat interchange of passing in the middle of the park.

Just as it looked like the first half would remain scoreless, the deadlock was broken 90 seconds before the interval. Andy King swung in a corner from Falkirk’s right flank and David Muir redeemed himself by laying his resultant header into the path of COLLIN SAMUEL and the Trinidadian fired home past Bowman to open the scoring - no chance for the young keeper.

HALF-TIME: EAST FIFE 1 FALKIRK 0

East Fife introduced Andy Collier, Ryan McAllister, David White and ex-Ranger Bob Malcolm at the expense of Brown, McCormack, Campbell and McBride respectfully. It was Falkirk who almost levelled proceedings within a few minutes of the restart though as Sibbald, Grant and Rowan combined, the cutback from the byeline by the latter found the inrushing White 4 yards out but Campbell did well to force the strikers effort wide.

The home side were unlucky not to extend their lead after 57 minutes when David Muir let loose a stunning 35 yard drive that cannoned of Bowman’s post, drawing a round of applause from the gathered crowd. Six minutes later Steven Pressley made his first changes of the day as new signing Ryan McGeever was joined on the park by Connor Greene and Liam Dick, with Rowan, Dods and Sibbald being withdrawn.

Dale Fulton was unlucky after 70 minutes when he battled his way past four men before firing in an effort that was held by Collier. Collin Samuel then left the fray to be replaced by James Martin, before Muir was substituted for Gordon shortly after in East Fife’s fifth and sixth changes of the day. Given the breaks in play caused by the substitutions the tempo appeared to drop.

That changed with 7 minutes left to play though as the home side wrapped up their hard-fought victory when Bob Malcolm stepped up to curl a superbly taken free-kick just inside Bowman’s right-hand post from 30 yards, displaying perfect set-piece execution. The Bairns did almost claw a goal back with 2 minutes remaining as Dale Fulton fed White inside the box but Collier held the low drive well.

A courageous showing by Falkirk's talented youngsters who once again played some great passing football against a side who were infinitely more experienced. To say there was little between the teams proves just how far these young boys have progressed over a season - and, in time, the fans will see them develop even further. Exciting times await....
