Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Rangers' away record this season

Brechin 2-1 win after extra time. Attendance 4123
Peterhead 2-2, last minute equaliser. Attendance 4485
Falkirk 0 Rangers 1. Attendance 6747
Berwick 1 Rangers 1, survived disallowed goal. The Rangers website says: "Berwick will perhaps be disappointed not to win this historic clash". Attendance 4140

Maybe other than the Falkirk game, these were all very big occasions for the clubs involved, who rose to the occasion of taking on Rangers in their own back yard. The games brought alive the towns of Brechin, Peterhead and Berwick, sparked the imagination of youngsters, and gave the locals - young and old - a reason to be proud of their team.

Should we provisionally book Starks Park or East End Park now for two games next season, or just concede the points to Rangers in exchange for a cut of what the crowd would have been? It amounts to the same thing. A pointless existence, other than as a social club for the few who are quite happy with the way things are.

Rangers' troubles are a chance to create a long-term benefit for the good of East Fife. If we fritter the League Cup money and next year's gate money on players who just come and go - we've all seen them - it will be a very long time before we have the resources to make Bayview fit for anything other than eternity in the Second Division. What youngster is going to be inspired by that grim fate?

Re: Please improve Bayview

I agree completely with what ur saying BUT with talk about league reconstruction being planned then there's no guarantee we'll be in the same league as them

Re: Please improve Bayview

You lot will not need to worry, you'll be passing them at the end of the season anyway.

We do you want the club to divert money the player budget to add capacity for Rangers fans? Seems a bit mental.

No it is for East Fife and the long term future and sustainability of the club. A crappy little stadium like ours gives the message of stagnation and lack of ambition, the latter being the very thing that has held us back for two and a half decades. Is it any wonder that local folk dont give a shit about their senior club any more?

Re: Please improve Bayview

Surely £186,000 - EF share of Newco gate-is more than enough for a start to be made on ground development, while ensuring the Manager has a player budget big enough to maintain,at least,EF's 2nd Division status.

More generally perhaps the Board could issue a statement on how it intends to invest this 1 off windfall.

Mental? Try mental arithmetic. Two games against Rangers can earn us up to £100,000 combined at the gate if we get the ground sorted with a bit of terracing. That should give the manager a budget, and the ground would be fit to host decent cup ties for years to come. No need to pay out to hire another club's ground.
If reconstruction comes, and we move from four to three leagues, there is even more reason to get the ground sorted now, because life in the middle tier would provide fixtures that would attract crowds of over 2000. If we go to three leagues and we settle for the bottom tier with no genuine intention of improving our lot, then it's time to shut down the club, or merge with Raith Rovers.

Re: Please improve Bayview

I would rather have my balls sawn off with a blunt nail file before I would want to see Fife merge with lino scum!

Re: Please improve Bayview

Covered terrace like what Stenhousemuirs got and the Rangers fans who visit x2 next season if we stay up will help pay for it. I could just imagine the uproar if we have to move our games away from Bayview due to lack of capacity in any future games.

Re: Please improve Bayview

Metal arithmetic.....so for the £100k you mention, we'd need to increase capacity by 3500. How much would this cost?

Re: Please improve Bayview

putting concrete terracing in which at a leter date could adapt to seating would be a sensible proposal, even if it was just one side of the ground, the old power station side.
i suspect the board would prefer to wait and see what happens re new ground than adapt what we have
