Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Ayr United Highlights

Now on the official site.

Re: Ayr United Highlights

I could barely bring myself to watch the highlights as watching it on Saturday was enough. However, after plucking up the courage to watch them, it only further highlighted our defensive frailties. All three goals we lost were really poor from a defensive point of view. They were no different to the type of goals we have been losing in the last few seasons. The first one saw nobody willing to put in a challenge. The second one, Cook got caught in possession 35 yards from goal, Scott Durie had gone forward on the right leaving Sinclair all the time in the world to pick his spot when the ball was played across the edge of the box. The third goal summed us up. A corner from the left to middle of the goalmouth 8 yards out. Collier doesn't come to catch or punch, no defender attacks the ball to header clear, nobody picks up the scorer and another Ayr player who attacks the ball. No player on the back post to clear and Darren Smith is standing on the goal line behind Collier - unbelievable !!!! Having fought our way back into the game, I couldn't believe we gave away such a cheap winner.
The team is crying out for an experienced, commanding, organiser of a Centre back who will motivate players around him and kick arses when required - someone with a bit of a nasty streak ! Changing the back four every week is also not helping to get an understanding and be able to work as a unit. In our present situation we need to have first and foremost four players who can defend. Cook and Durie are probably better going forward than defending. Give McCormack a chance even as a full back.
I 'd like to see us play a 4-2-3-1 at Stranraer to try to tighten things up at the back. The two holding midfield players can offer more help to the defence and allow the three in front of them more licence to go and support the striker safe in the knowledge that their are six players and the GK behind them. 3 points are desperately needed on Sat to kick start the season and prevent us from becoming detached at the bottom. Any news on Collin Samuel ?

"Cook got caught in possession 35 yards from goal"

Yep, and when these things happen, all a player can do is chase back and try to make amends. However, almost 10 seconds later, as the ball hit the net, he was still on his haunches in the same spot where he lost possession.
