Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Re: Latest Score

Professional performance in the end and defensively we were very solid. Too many people moaning at players, telling them to push up all the time. Brown put an extra midfielder on as we were losing the middle of the park and went 4-5-1. Antell was really good, missed 1 cross and was promptly fizzed at by one fan. Give them a break!! Well fine Fife and a tough one next week against Brechin who are flying just now.

We won and that's the main thing but we got out played by the bottom team all over the park. We seem to be getting very lucky with results but our performance over the last month has not been great. Good win though and well done to billy again

Re: Latest Score

So by way of entertainment ... No very good.... By way of points in the bag.. Nae complaints.... By way of the bloke that slated Antell for his first mistake in what was an excellent game for him... PRICK!

Re: Latest Score

wouldn't say we got outplayed today,Albion keeper made 2 great saves from 1 on 1's and cant remember Antell making too many saves.
Defence looked solid especially Durie,Forster and Campbell. Samuel's hold up play was excellent and we look a better team with Mcbride back in the team, helps out at the back and is a good out-ball from the keepers kick-outs.
We played better against Stranraer and lost so dont know what Charlie is on about with being lucky with results.
Good to see a better Ref in charge of the game although crazy idea to let both teams play the 1st half with dark strips on.

Marvin Andrews man of the match.

Aye those results at Forfar and Arbroath, we got really lucky there.

Yer havering man.

Re: Latest Score

Thought it was one of the most subdued atmospheres I've experienced at Bayview - even when the first goal was scored ! Albion played some decent stuff in the first half without creating too many clear cut chances. Collin Samuel took his goal well when the ball wasn't cleared from a corner and he swivelled to fire into the net. Paul Willis had two great chances to extend the lead before the break when one on one with the keeper who made a couple of good saves. After changing their tops at halftime because of the colour clash, East Fife quickly scored the second with the best move of the game down the right side ended with Barr finding Samuel in the box where he finished at the second attempt after the keeper saved the first one. After this, we started defending very deep and allowing Albion lots of possession and although they created a few chances and Gormley cleared off the line, we held firm and collected a valuable 3 points.
Although it wasn't a great performance, it was a crucial 3 points as it draws us closer to Arbroath and Forfar, and further away from Albion and Stranraer. The fact that many of the players have played 3 games in 8 days, 2 of these games we played for a long time 10 v 11, which would have taken there toll. McCormack came back after suspension and McBride came in after having had a virus. White and of course the suspended Stoney dropped out. Hopefully McManus is back soon to work alongside Samuel whose first touch and holdup play is good. We need to be able to field a settled side, which we've not been able to do most of the season. The squad could do with a couple of additions, especially an organising, experienced, talking, motivating leader. Marvin Andrews did that job for Albion today and tbh he was probably one of the best players on the park.
Two difficult games coming up with Brechin at home and Alloa away, but if we want to involved in the promotion playoffs we must be looking to pick up some points. Hopefully with a week till the next game, injuries will start to clear and the Manager can get the players working hard in training and develop confidence

I am not someone who would really slate the keepers performance today and those who do so at the game need to think about what they are doing. That saId IMO we need Brown back ASP. Keeper made a few good stops today but did not come for several crosses which he should have. He also fails to look for the quick throw or kick . He really needs some help to develop as I am sure in time he could be decent

Thought Willis was great today and was disappointed to see mcbride come off. Div was solid today showd strength particularly in 1st half.

Re: Latest Score

The 'crowd' was 486 on Saturday, only 25 away from being the smallest in the country. Stirling Albion are bottom of div 3 and had nearly 200 more than us. Clyde are third bottom of that league and also had more as did those giants of the game Brechin City, Stranraer (admittedly a local derby of sorts) and Peterhead.

Are other people concerned about this? Can we realistically expect more if our form picks up and we have a strong play-off push? I'm not sure we would to be honest as apathy in the area is now so entrenched but surely we should not have significantly lower attendances than the club currently propping up the SFL?

Stupid question , but does the Board have any long-term goals or any targets for attracting more people through the gate or should we just accept that no-one cares and plod on regardless?
