Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Memories from Australia

Leven High Street on a Sunday night- the monkey parade. One shop in that High
Street I haven't seen mentioned was Wilkie's shoe shop. As a post office messenger in Leven we were not supposed to ride our motor bikes down the High
Street during the Glasgow Fair fortnight. Finally to my own birthplace,
Buckhaven. Ally Struthers fish and chips in Sandwell Street. As good as I have
tasted anywhere in the world. Last but certainly not least. Norrie Anderson's
in College Street. Half white, Half black and Half red and threepenny worth
o'chips. A feast fit for a king, all for a shilling.

Re: Memories from Australia + Bygone Levenmouth

Just read the Levenmouth series the other day and it brought back wonderful memories.
1947 - snow higher than a 7-year old's bum but everybody seemed to get to work/school and the papers/milk/rolls got delivered.
Buckhyne PS - kicking the ball on to the railway line from the playground. Straight across the road to the Globe on a Wednesday to the matinee and galloping home afterwards slapping your side.
Denbeath Institute & sports facilities - Saturday night gambling at various billiards games (matchbox pool etc). John Brown (polio victim)- calling him all the names of the day when he missed a shot, but John loved it as he was treated the same as the rest of us (wouldn't get away with it now in our PC era). Had to watch your language when wee Wille Webster (caretaker) was around but. Tennis in the daylight and wynching in the dark or down to Janettas for a soft drink and listening to the jukebox.
Globe again - Mr Seago trying to keep order especially when Jimmy Birrell blew raspberries at the love scenes.
Tammy Russell - endlessly bringing home bags of sea coal on his bike.
My bro writing from Melbourne mentioned one of my favourites - half white/black/red puddings + 3d of chips all for a bob.
Happy New Year to all fellow Fifers wherever you are from one now in Linlithgow.
