Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Todays Game

Brilliant game to watch and we were in the end slightly unlucky not to win, although Brechin missed a sitter right at the death.
All over the shop at the back in the first half and we were definitely fortunate to be level at the break. Bobby Barr's goal was an absolute peach and well worth viewing on EFTV.
2nd half and we battered them for the first 25 minutes and should have scored through McBride and several terrible decisions from the linesman scuppered chances. Ran out of steam a bit after that but a great game.
The back 4 were excellent in the 2nd half and McCormack had a really good game at right back. Shagger ran his ass off as usual but needs games to get sharp. Willis was excellent in the middle and Jamieson was pretty good when he came on.

Re: Todays Game

Really enjoyed the game,i'd agree with Fat Doug, great 2nd half display.Mcbride should've hit the target and McManus from 3 yards was unlucky as defender deflected shot around the post also 1 cleared off the line. Linesman was absolutely terrible with 3 shocking offside decisions.

Brechin might've stolen a win with 2 or 3 great chances in the last 15mins.
Barr's goal was a beauty but thought he had one of his quieter games and more than once got caught out trying to take on players deep in his own half.Willis outstanding in Central midfield (as he was when played there against Arbroath at Bayview).Great shift from McManus up front.
Crowd of 578 were well entertained today

Re: Todays Game

Good assessment doug the boys worked extremely hard and with a bit of luck could have snatched it. Shagger ran himself into the ground and with more games he will score goals. He has been out for a long time and had no games but he is fit as a fiddle . Bobby Barr was great and what a goal from the wee man. Brechin are on a good run but I thought we looked much better than them 2nd half. We need a big win next week at a place we have done well at over the years. Great game the day

Re: Todays Game

Great value for money today. Superb performance and effort from the entire team. Could be picky and find fault. But that would be taking the icing off the cake. Brechin have been the form team lately and many thought we were in for a drubbing today. We totally dominated in the second half (last 10 mins excluded), good to see players covering for each other and playing as a unit.
Considering the chances carved out by both teams a draw was probably fair.
Well done, keep it up for next week.

Re: Todays Game

Ref seemed to be dishing out cards to Fife players for every infringement toward the end; on that basis Brechin no. 5 should've walked early in the second half.

Totally, their number 8 clattered Bobby with no intention of getting the ball early in the game and was barely spoken to let alone booked.

Re: Todays Game

Agree with Arnie. If an offence is bookable it shouldn't matter if it's in the first or ninetieth minute or whether the player has been on one or ninety minutes.
Although a couple of the standside linesman's decisions were correct i.e. Brechin's second goal some of his decisions were bizarre. It almost seemed he had redeemed a terrible performance when he triumphantly called back a free kick by Antell because the ball was moving.

Re: Todays Game

A draw was probably a fair result from a good game of Football. Brechin were probably the better side in the first half but Bobby Barrs goal was an absolute beauty which was in all the way whenever it left his boot. We had looked a bit disjointed in the first half with a number of misplaced passes and too often the defenders couldn't find the midfielders and either punted the ball long or passed back to Antell who then did the same. What a difference in the second half when we moved the ball forward quicker, playing it to feet and players were moving into space. Billy Brown had obviously had words !
A bit more composure from Scott McBride in front of goal should have seen us go 3-2 up but Brechin could also have snatched it at the death, so a draw was probably fair.
Positives from today . Twice coming back from going a goal behind. The team showing more desire and commitment in the 2nd half. Paul McManus playing 80 minutes. Darren Smith looked more like the player we saw last season. Taking the game to the form team in the Division.
Negatives . Losing Collin Samuel midway through first half (hopefully fit for Alloa next week), losing two soft goals lost from the same area.
Difficult game next week at Alloa. The players should be accustomed to the surface having trained there a few times recently. Hopefully Samuel will be fit and Shagger has no ill effects from today's efforts. Div Muir should also be available. A new face in the squad maybe ? The players should take a lot of confidence from the game today and can hopefully take at least a point next week. C'mon the Fife
