Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Jimmy Canavan, East Fife & Gloucester City

I've been sent a communication from the Gloucester City historian asking if Jimmy Canavan (East Fife late 1940's, Gloucester City early 50's) is still alive. Can anyone help? He was born in 1924, which would make him 89.

Re: Jimmy Canavan, East Fife & Gloucester City

Hello, I believe "Canavan" as we knew him died several years ago, I think at least 10 years ago. I think he must have been living back in Scotland by then. I remember him as an occasional visitor to our house when I was a small child (Dad played at East Fife with him and then at Gloucester City.) I will ask my mum if she remembers more.

Re: Jimmy Canavan, East Fife & Gloucester City

Hi Sandra - this must be a record - query posted in March 2013 and the first reply is posted over two years later!
Thanks for your information. Unfortunately, I have cleared out a lot of old emails and the one from the Gloucester City historian appears to be one of them, so I no longer have his contact details. Hopefully he'll get back in touch.

Re: Jimmy Canavan, East Fife & Gloucester City

hi Jim Costorphine
yes..lol! I've been doing some research into my Dad's career so that is what led me to Jimmy Canavan. Re the historian - perhaps it was Tim Clark? - he is the GCFC statistician - think his contact details would be on the club website. Best wishes.

Re: Jimmy Canavan, East Fife & Gloucester City

Hi Jim,

I'm actually also looking into whether Jimmy is still around. I'm based in Gloucester and the last I heard (years ago) was that he was running a pub somewhere in Gloucestershire or the round about area, but that info is about 15-20 years old.

Can I ask why you are looking or if you've found any more info?
