Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

GoF

AFTN and data protection

Regarding to ongoing spat between SPF and Jocky I see nobody has commented (or noticed) this post on the Joe Mbu thread.....

Fan tastic
Coming from a guy who posts as Jocky then backs his posts up but forgets to change his username

All confirmed and backed up by a respected moderator of this forum.

Jocky, you really are a prize sad arse of a man.

SPF miles ahead on points. He had the measure of you a long time ago.

This post seems to suggest that a AFTN moderator has passed on confidential information regarding the identity of one poster to another.

I'm no legal expert but I'm pretty damn sure that this should not be happening and is a clear breach of confidentiality on a par with the NotW scandal.

Can the patrons of AFTN have an explanation and assurances please?

Re: AFTN and data protection

No breach as no details given.

The moderator in question confirmed on the forum, not to a third party privately, that the same IP had been used. We've done that numerous times in the past.

There's actually a facility on the forum to display all IPs for everyone to see, but I have that switched off.

You are right, you are no legal expert. Where does it say on this website, or anywhere else, that you are entitled to confidentiality when you post on a website forum? Every time you post, you give the website your details voluntarily.

Nothing could be further from the truth Brian and I`m pretty disappointed that you are suggesting this.

I don`t have a clue who the identity of the poster who didn`t change his/her username is and I`m certainly not interested in who he/she is. His/her post replying under the same username was only checked as it is not allowed to impersonate someone else using the same name.

Unfortunately I won`t be at the game tomorrow but you know who I am so I`m more than happy to talk to you face to face at the next home game so you can justify your accusations.

Re: AFTN and data protection

Hi Tam

Thanks for the explanation, I think I see what has gone on now, the threads a mess and hard to follow with who's who and who's not who :)

Will definately have a chat with you when I see you, might even be in Sainsburys :D

Maybe best to delete this thread then.

I have to agree with Brian. The moderator, having been satisfied that no impersonating was going on, should have left it at that. There was no need to divulge details obtained through his priviliged access, and attempt to discredit a contributor.
There are several reasons why IP addresses may be the same, shared PC access, internet cafes, same DHCP server as another poster, and the moderator cannot conclusively prove that the same poster used two different names. On a previous topic of moon landings, Buzz Lightyear posted. I assumed that Buzz hadn't mistakenly come across AFTN from Star Command, and was probably a regular using a different alias for comic purpose. There was no clamour to out them.
Given the recent negativity on here, I feel it would probably best to suspend the forum for a couple of weeks, so those who are trying to wean themselves off all things East Fife have the opportunity to find something else to do, and the AFTN forum can once again become an enjoyable place to hang out.

WHAT?? Suspend the forum. Are you of this planet?

It's not an official forum - read the blurb at the top. It's GoF's personal forum. He can do whatever he wants. We're on it because he lets us on it. Who are you to advocate he 'suspend' it? Start your own unofficial forum. Lobby the Club to get their own, registered forum. Ignore this one, it's a free world.

Re: AFTN and data protection

SPF.....I think you've missed the point of the "suspend AFTN" suggestion.

The forum quality has been in decline for a wee while now with a rapid downturn over the last month or so. IMO your posts in particular are a major contribution to this decline.

An AFTN suspension would be good for you....... You could wean yourself off AFTN ..... Or use the break as a chance to reset yourself and return to AFTN as a positive contributor and an east fife supporter.

SPF.....as an experiment why don't you suspend yourself for say 15 days. No posts, and no reading of posts. Going cold turkey won't be easy but I bet at the end of it you would be in a better frame of mind and AFTN would be in a better place too..

Just a suggestion

Re: AFTN and data protection

This is the best AFTN has been for ages!! Roll on more!!

Re: AFTN and data protection

The main reason I come on this forum, is to read a range of views about East Fife. If all the posts were from the same hymn sheet, what would there be to discuss?

You should start your own forum about "supposed fans" who comment on all things East Fife but don't actually attend games
