Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Boghead promotion decider

Can anyone remind me of some details on the Boghead promotion decider. Date attendance etc. Im sure it was another Mayday game, we had a big away support and Tam McManus (Pauls Cousin?) was in our side as a teenage loanee from Hibs.It was the last game there before they moved to the new place. I know its painful memories but I did enjoy the trip through.

Re: Boghead promotion decider

May 6 2000. The East Fife side that afternoon was

McCulloch,Munro Sharp, McCloy, Gibb, Cusick, Forrest, Logan, McManus, Moffat, Mackay. Substitutes Love, Robertson and Wright were all used.

East Fife took the lead with a Ray Logan goal in 11 minutes but Dumbarton scored twice after the break. It was a blazing hot day and we had nothing left in the tank to come back. The crowd was 3,031 including around 1,000 East Fife fans.

Re: Boghead promotion decider

Willie McCulloch did us no favours that day, as I recall! Didn't he gift them a goal?

Re: Boghead promotion decider

Kenny Munro was very complicient too, arguably more so.

Re: Boghead promotion decider

Highlight of the day for me was the Dumbarton chairman at full time, assaulting my ears with his rendition of Auld Lang Syne.

The curry at the Viceroy with GoF on the way home was pretty good though.

Re: Boghead promotion decider

That game and the 7 -1 are my worst memories as an East Fife fan although this whole season runs it close.

Re: Boghead promotion decider

Yeah Kenny was complicent that day. The players were warned before the game not pass the ball back to the keeper as the ground was hard & rutted. They equalised a minute after half time then Kenny tried a pass back from fully 35 yards that changed direction about 5 times before Wille McC decided to take a touch & lost the ball to an inrushing Dumbarton player & the game was a bogey! Pauline got Ray Sharp's shirt after the game but we were asked to return it as the club couldn't afford to lose any! Somethings never change!
Young Fifers' bus coming back was like a morgue until we reached the FRB & Robbie Shepherd came on the radio so we had a wee dance in the aisles til we got home! Never forget the look on Ken Peters' face when that started

Re: Boghead promotion decider

I would not say Willie McCulloch took a touch - he tapped the ball to Jimmy Robertson, who was standing in front of him! Robertson looked embarrassed to slip the ball past McCulloch and into the goal.

Re: Boghead promotion decider

Another thing was that this was the final game at Boghead and there were hunnars of local chaps whose allegiance I suspect lay elsewhere in the ground.

The green and white scarves were a bit of a giveaway mind you.

Re: Boghead promotion decider

My main memories are, as Eugene says, a load of Celtic fans, dandelions in the six yard box and some 'neds' for want of a better word walking away with advertising hoardings.
