Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Surely the players must be demoralised?

Spare a thought for the players who have been at the centre of all this and what must be going through their heads at the moment?

It can't be too pleasent wondering what kind of reception they are going to get come Saturday. It also can't help that the manager has publicly opined that they are not good enough; that is no way to motivate people. Brown should be building their self-belief and confidence up, not constantly knocking it.

That dressing room must be like a morgue at the moment and the players must be rock-bottom demoralised.

If Brown can't motivate (and by his own admission, he can't) then it is up to the fans to do it come Saturday. There is no point in booing Brown either; what good is it going to do? If he doesn't know that he has made a complete twat of himself by now (on a national level and damaged his career opportunities to boot) then there is no point in giving hime dogs' abuse.

What a f*cking mess

Re: Surely the players must be demoralised?

Former United and City goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel said in an interview with Sky Sports on 7th April:

'You will never see United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in the media taking problems he has, or the squad has, or the club has, into the open.

'Never ever. But you do see that at Manchester City.

'Some players have been heavily criticised by the manager in public. Perhaps Mancini brings that from Italy. Perhaps you do that there, where there are different expectations.

'But that does not work here. I can understand that some of the players have been angry or disappointed with that type of treatment. Sometimes they will take that on to the pitch and maybe not play 100 per cent for the manager.

'That never happens with Sir Alex Ferguson. Never. Sir Alex is so consistent with his management. He manages each person differently but you know exactly where you are with him. You know exactly what is required. Manchester City have not had that.'

morale and confidence come from results - motivation comes from within.

Are you sure you are not Billy Brown ? Like him you are putting all the blame on the players and don't acknowledge that the Manager should take any responsibility for our situation. Basically what you are saying is that because the team are not getting results, morale and confidence are low and it is up to the players to get motivated by themselves for games. If this is the case the Club could save themselves money by sacking the Manager, don't replace him and let the players prepare themselves for games.
What is it that Billy Brown is employed to do at Bayview ?

Btw - there are two types of motivation a Intrinsic - which you mention, where people are motivated from within to be the best they can be and perform at their best. There is also extrinsic motivation where players are motivated by external influences. At Bayview at present the players are receiving no extrinsic motivation as the Manager has done his best to demoralise the players by his continued slating of them in post match interviews, which is exactly the same thing he is blaming the fans for.

Re: Surely the players must be demoralised?

gie it a break guys, heard from 1 of the players, things where sorted between the gaffer, and the players this week, everybody now in the frame of mind to go out there and win points,so lets get behind them, for what they need now is the supporters making a big noise of support for them. including the gaffer, fitbaw is full of passion and sometimes things are said, and done in the spur of the moment,so mabey this was what was needed to give everybody a kick up the arse,so every body get down to bayview tomorrow and lets end this nightmare. COME ON THE FIFE.

cannot disagree with that comment.
