Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

The Promotion squad of 2002/03

Looking forward to seeing Deuchs, Rossco, Mikey Hall and the Rest of the Promotion squad at the game tomorrow. Hopefully they can inspire the present squad to a good result. Watched the Promotion DVD tonight and can't believe it's 10 years since the game against Queens Park. Jim Moffats Barmy Army !!

:-) :-)

Re: The Promotion squad of 2002/03

I remember speaking to Jimmy Bonthrone that day. Very frail but very happy. For anybody under 90, he was a hard as nails, brick wall legend:-)

Re: The Promotion squad of 2002/03

deuchar aye but whats the big deal about that squad?, they guys got the club up and failed to keep it there, no better than the squad of today, i doubt anyone will have any memories come 2018 and that squad were a hell of alot better!

Re: The Promotion squad of 2002/03

As a matter of interest EF were relegated that season with 41 points.

Re: The Promotion squad of 2002/03

Some folk are just never blooming happy.
Why shouldn't the club acknowledge the efforts of that side following a remarkable season - particularly the ending to it.

Well done to those who organised a very successful afternoon.

I quite look forward to the 2018 reunion too!

Stil think Jim Moffat got his tactics all wrong when we played Peterhead and Morton at home and those defeats ultimately cost us the league title.

Another post which goes to prove you will never, please some folk, no matter how ell we do! Whether we are top, bottom or middle of the league, the whinging will keep coming!

Re: The Promotion squad of 2002/03

morton were a better team than us

Re: The Promotion squad of 2002/03

Moffat and Robertson got a shit load right more than they got wrong that season. The wages of the entire squad would barely cover those of any two Morton players. Peterhead were also not short of a bob or two.

Re: The Promotion squad of 2002/03

Moffat built a squad on a shoe-string compared to our challengers that season. Deuchar was still young and had been released after not being too impressive at Falkirk and most of the squad were guys who'd been playing in the bottom leagues for years without making a huge impact. What the squad achieved that season was amazing and gave most East Fife fans some of the best memories of the modern era.

They obviously weren't the greatest squad of footballers ever to grace the lower leagues but the commitment and passion they showed to get us that promotion should always be worthy of remembering at East Fife.

Re: The Promotion squad of 2002/03

Bit harsh on King Kenny when you consider he suffered a leg break whilst at Falkirk.

Why did you not ask the same question of Cat? Or could Cat be Mr305.... I wonder?

Re: The Promotion squad of 2002/03

Not meant to be harsh. Just meant that Falkirk released him and getting him was an absolute steal. It's not like we'd splashed the cash on a proven player.
