Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Top 100 Greastest Players Of The 20th Century

Cracking question on PnB,

At the turn of the millennium, World Soccer magazine released its famous ranking of the 100 Greatest Players of the 20th Century!!!

... who is the highest person on the list to have played at your club's ground (or former ground)???

This could be in competitive action, friendlies, or representative football. Simply if they took the field in a football match!!!

Top 100 Players

I think the highest for us was Bobby Charlton in (I think) George Martis' testemonial but I also think we may of had the following;

22 - Kenny Dalglish
30 - John Charles
32 - Gordon Banks
49 - David Beckham
83 - Jim Baxter
83 - Ryan Giggs
91 - Alan Hansen

Can anybody add any more and better still give dates???

This is obviously a job for Auld Jim Beavers and Auld Jim Corstorphine!!!

Re: Top 100 Greastest Players Of The 20th Century

I'm pretty sure that John Charles played against us but maybe not at Bayview, Jim Baxter surely played against us when he was at the Rovers?

Re: Top 100 Greastest Players Of The 20th Century

John Charles played at bayview in the 50s for Leeds United in a game under our new floodlights,i got his autograph,we used to play a lot of top English teams then,Sunderland when Charlie Fleming came back with them,Nottingham Forest, and a few others,we also played the British forces 11 which had a lot of international players who were doing there national service.

Re: Top 100 Greastest Players Of The 20th Century

I seem to recall my dad telling me that the late great Duncan Edwards played at Bayview for The British Army while doing his national service. So that must have around 1956 ish.

Re: Top 100 Greastest Players Of The 20th Century

Jim Baxter didn't play in the New Year's game at Bayview in 1958 but he may have featured in the Fife Cup semi final replay the following March.
However I am almost certain that he played for Rangers in a friendly in January 1970.

Baxter definitely played against us at Bayview around 1970'ish, but I think it was possibly a reserve game against Rangers? I remember he looked a bit overweight as well, although his class was obvious.
