Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Today's team

Tuta played and Moosavi was on the bench today. Did they play as trialists or have they signed ? If they they have not signed then how come they are named and not called A or B trialist like the other 2 today ? Who were the trialists BTW ? Can anybody throw any light on how this works ?

Re: Today's team

Tuta has signed

Re: Today's team

Thought the gaffer got it completely wrong today. Playing Mbu at left back is a terrible decision. Surely Durie can play left back and Dutot right back?

Then playing Pat Clarke on the left of midfield. We played so much better when both players were played in position.

Number 11 got 90 minutes? How?

Re: Today's team

11 was Gregor Fotheringham, sub keeper was Greg Paterson. Didn't know the rules had changed this season to allow 7 subs to be named!

Re: Today's team

Think the team selection today showed up where our weaknesses lie. Michael Andrews and hopefully Greg Paterson signs so we are ok for GKs. Durie, Dutot, Campbell, Thom, Mbu and Stoney but we probably lack a left back. Would like to see Ishmael Bouzid sign at least a short term contract. Midfield has Johnny Stewart, Willis, Brown, McBride, Ryan Stewart, Moosavi. Think Johnny Stewart has looked good playing just in front of the back four in a 4-1-4-1 but has struggled a bit in a 4-4-2. Feel we don't have enough width in the team with nobody consistently taking defenders on and getting to the byeline to supply quality deliveries for the strikers. With Buchanan, Tatu, Clarke and Fash (with Nade still to come in) I'm sure we have goals in the team but the supply is not what it needs to be.

I'd like to see Paterson, Ishmael Bouzid, at least one winger and possibly a midfield ball winner signed to give us a decent squad to get us through this season. Wonder if we should look at a 4-1-3-2 or a 4-2-3-1 formation to make the best of our resources. It's early days but I feel that the Manager needs to quickly get to a stage where he knows the formation and players best positions rather than chopping and changing from week to week.

Have to agree with above- I thought we lacked strength and pace in midfield .

We need a winger with pace who can provide an outlet fr the defence/midfield and keep the opposition on the back foot.

Don't think we're too far off from a decent side but one or two key signings would make a huge difference - unfortunately I think some of the trailists will have to be let go to get some strength and pace in.

Just watched the post match interview with Kevin Drinkell and he is in agreement with the above but says it may take a few weeks yet. Hopefully we can get points on the board in the next two games. C'mon the Fife

Re: Today's team

Just feel we need to get midfield sorted and we will be ok this season. We have good options at the back and great talent up front Liam and the lads just need service from midfield. Sure Willie sees this as well and hopefully we will have something sorted by the close of the transfer window. Would love to see a good turnout for the Arbroath game to see up notch up our first home win of the season.

Re: Today's team

Agree about midfield, too lightweight and we need a bit of pace out wide. Liked the look of Buchanan yday and Durie come onto a game 2nd half. Couple of decent signings should see us stay in Div.
