Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Re: Reserves V Airdrie

Final score 7 - 0.

Willis and Clarke in the second half.

Re: Reserves V Airdrie

anyone know what the starting line up was?

Re: Reserves V Airdrie

Not sure of 2 of the younger players but here goes;
Andrews

Grieve ? Campbell Kyle Wilson?

Willis Brown Johnstone Mc Bride

Buchanan Clarke

Arguably the above midfield would have made a heck of a difference last Saturday.

Re: Reserves V Airdrie

CM
anyone know what the starting line up was?

Not sure of youngsters names, formation looked 4-1-3-2
Andrews
Bradley Grieve S.Campbell Ross ?? Kyle Wilson

Ross Brown

P.Willis Stoney McBride

Buchanan Clarke

Mcbride tapped in 1st after keeper couldn't hold Buchanan shot, 2nd Mcbride cut in from wing and 18yd shot took slight deflection. 3rd Buchanan worked space in box and scored from 6 yds. 4th Buchanan scored with shot from edge of box.Clarke got 5th but cant remember it 5-0 HT

HT subs Durie on Buchanan off,Ryan Stewart for Ross ??. Stoney for Mousarri after about 60 mins.

Clarke got goal No.6 with near post shot from low Mcbride cross,Willis got No.7. Mcbride hit bar with long range shot and he also should've scored when miss-kicking from a few yds out.

Airdrie had 1 off the line 1st half and Andrews made a good save 2nd half.

Andrews distribution from hand and foot wasn't too clever. Mcbride had a great game,Buchanan was brilliant, Ross Brown looks better with each game(faded slightly 2nd half) Ryan Stewart look quite good when he came on and was quite impressed with Mousarri plenty pace created a few chances when he came.Willis needs to improve, plenty effort but poor touch and passing. Attendance probably around 100.

Whole team looked like they've had a good kick up the arse as they played at quite a high tempo throughout the 90mins

Re: Reserves V Airdrie

Ross Lennie at centre half, impressive 45 from him

Re: Reserves V Airdrie

It's a reserve game for young players and airdrie had a young team out and we had our 1st team. We are shocking on a Saturday so why get all excited about a reserve game. We are doomed under this clown

Re: Reserves V Airdrie

I was very surprised at the strength of the side given it's a reserve fixture.

As already mentioned, McBride was excellent.
Good to see Pat Clarke hitting the net too.

Overall though it was a mismatch. Full timers like Buchanan against a very young Airdrie side. Not really what reserve football is about.

Neilson and Naysmith very vocal from the sidelines.
Aitchison was in the stands, sat with Lee Murray

Re: Reserves V Airdrie

Do not understand the criticism about the quality of player who played last night.
The facts are that EF does have a strong group of players but only Johnstone and Buchanan started last Saturday's game. How on earth do you get players who do not play regularly, match fit?
The game may well have been a mismatch but Airdrie decided to choose a young team- exactly why? ask Airdie.
The game itself was not an under 19/20 game - it was a reserve game .
In short you can only play who is put in front of you.
For me both Campbell and Buchanan were excellent ,with Johnstone tigerish in midfield getting stuck in and actually winning the ball .

Re: Reserves V Airdrie

Well said Sammy.

Only East Fife fans would get angry about a 7-0 win...

Re: Reserves V Airdrie

NORMAL FOOTBALL FAN: "We won 7-0. Great confidence boost for everyone. Good for fringe players to get a chance to show what they can do."

EAST FIFE FAN: "So fucking what? We were playing against a bunch of school kids. Plus it was just a reserve match, In fact - why did we not score at least ten goals? We would have scored more if Dave Clarke was in charge. We are doomed. Murray and Aitchison are clueless" [etc etc..yawn..yawn]

Re: Reserves V Airdrie

Next reserve fixture is away at Raith

Monday night 7.30pm

7-0 again would do just fine!

Re: Reserves V Airdrie

Yeah the question should be asked who went against the priciple of the reserve league?
East Fife for fielding a mixture of first team regulars(2), first team fringe players(6) & youth players (3) or Airdrie, youth players (9), first team finge players (2)?
Reserve games are meant to give players not getting Saturday action a game & bring on the youth players that are ready to make the step up.
The answer is the first question is Airdrie. Why enter a reserve league if you are only going to play youths who already had a game that weekend?
There are more questions than answers....

Re: Reserves V Airdrie

Lets just say that stranraer have 8 players injured and have to play reserves players and some of them are youths, do we oh sorry we will player our youths, fuck off it was airdries choice to field young players so its there tough shit they got humped 7-0

Absolutely right. What this shows is that we have a strong squad with good depth in many positions and those not getting a regular game need to play in reserve matches. The strong squad is a double edged sword though as far as the first team is concerned in that Aitchison does not seem to know what his best team is or perhaps more importantly how to get the best out of them. The constant chopping and changing from game to game clearly shows this and fielding players out of position does not help either. This needs to get sorted quickly and a settled side stuck with for the next few matches. For example I know Nathan Austin is a local favourite but that was no reason for the manager to try and court popularity by starting him up front last week instead of Buchanan. Fash's time will come and for now he is best suited as impact player coming off the bench.

Anyway I await with interest who starts against Stranraer
