Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

If we are talking about the same young player that came on at half time his name is Mark Shaw he is part of our full time youth set-up.

Re: Reserve Match

Seems like possibly manager not may not be utilising the full time youth players
Ross Brown and occasional Fash sub . When are these guys gonna get opportunity to stake a claim
For first team football

Re: Reserve Match

Fash is not an apprentice youth player.

Played on Saturday?.....

Best way to blood youth team members into the first team, imo, is to give them 10 to 15 min in less important games or when the result is beyond doubt. Then gradually increase their onfield game time.
Chucking them into a must win game, when some of the opposition tactic can be unsporting (eg marvin) would be totally unfair on them.

Can you really see a situation this season where the result is not going to be in doubt in the last 10 or 15 mins? Unless you're thinking of games when we are losing heavily then of course there will be chances. And isn't every game a must win one? There isnae going to be any less important games this season either. Every game will be crucial.

If they are good enough like Ross Brown they will come through regardless.

You are correct in what you are saying, but I think Penpal was responding to the previous poster suggesting that the youth players should get a game regardless and that is dodgy for not only the team, but also for the youth players being thrown in at the deep end. I reckon you would agree with that and of course, circumstances might enforce a youth being selected and he might just seize the opportunity hopefully.

Re: Reserve Match

What I was trying to say is, ideally the youths (if good enough) should get 10 to 15 mins game time and then gradually work there way to a starting place in the team. Some of our games will turn out to be a bit of a battle this season as we've already seen.
Agree, there's no easy games and every point will be a prisoner, that just means it's gonna be really difficult for them to get a 'foot in the door'.

However....When we're cruisin' 3-0 get them on!

Re: Reserve Match

If the manager was to throw a bunch of kids in the team when the side is maybe a goal or two down and they lost more people on here would be the first calling for his head.
I think the manager has shown since he came here that he will give young players a chance when they're ready.
Would the likes of Ross Brown be anywhere near the first team if Billy Brown was still here? I very much doubt it.

No, the one who came on as our last sub with about 20-25 mins to go?
