Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Gary Naysmith

I know Gary has had no managerial experience, but look at the level he has played at his whole career. I believe he has appeared in the English Premier League for 7+ years (don't quote me on this), he would have learnt training techniques from the top managers from the BPL. It appears also that he has gained the respect from our playing staff, which is important.

I would normally turn my head if we signed a manager with no experience, but I think this looks promising. What do you guys think?

Re: Gary Naysmith

If we perform today and get a result then I'd be more than happy for him to get the job. Agree with everything you say, though I wouldn't judge completely on the basis of one game last week.

Re: Gary Naysmith

I believe EF is a long term project, we cannot expect instant results straight away. I'm excited that we're finally giving the youth players a chance, this will certainly start to pay of for us soon (just look at Falkirk).

Re: Gary Naysmith

Don't we need a manager who has been places and done things?

Re: Gary Naysmith

After today's great result i'd be very surprised if he didn't get the job!

Re: Gary Naysmith

Hopefully Gary is handed the Managers post with Paul Hegarty as his Assistant. His first task should be to get Stephen Hughes signed up until the end of the season. He has been outstanding since he gained his match fitness. His free kick today was outstanding. He is a player who can put his foot on the ball, make passes and get others around him playing. I'd love to see him playing behind Buchanan and in front of a Central midfield pairing of Fisher & Ross Brown.

Re: Gary Naysmith

Another great post match interview. Gary was very honest in his assessment of our performance against Airdrie.

It is great to see him giving the young lads a chance - something previous "big time" managers would not do.

Agree that getting Stephen Hughes for the season would be huge for us.

Thank you Stephen for all you have done so far - top drawer. That free kick was awesome...

Re: Gary Naysmith

Re the manager's job, any body language experts or poker players might have spotted a very interesting 'tell' in that interview.

Re: Gary Naysmith

Around 2mins 50 secs.... A rub of the nose when talking about the managerial vacancy?

Well he won't be handed it, he will have earned it. Pedantry aside, Gary has been very impressive in both his post-match interviews and seems to know how to get the best out of this group of players. There has been a bit of a back to basics approach for his two games in charge and that has exactly what has been required. I wasn't sure at first whether he should get the job, but I would be quite happy now if he were appointed.
