Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Livy Going Bust?

The Hearld reports that Livvy have failed to meet payments to HMRC.

Also in March, Nixon's case to recoup the £310K loan is being heard.

Wonder what this means for Mr Rankine's "investment".

Re: Livy Going Bust?

The multi-club ownership case is to go to a third day. November 28th for the latest instalment.

With 3 separate cases against Livingston (3 club issue, hmrc default, Nixon £310k) the immediate future looks bleak.

While I feel sorry for the supporters I have no sympathy for Rankine.

Ironically, if anyone was looking to profit from livingston's vulnerable situation, mcbookie are offering 11/4 on them finishing bottom.

Re: Livy Going Bust?

Just a question NC. If Rankine comes out of this with no issues and Livingston survive, would you prefer that to Rankine's investments being hit hard and Livingston don't survive?

Re: Livy Going Bust?

You don't get a hearing with the SFA to get a pat on the back .

Rankine case adjourned again

Staff Writer
Tuesday 11 November 2014

The Scottish Football Association's investigation into Livingston has been adjourned until November 28.

The hearing, which centres on allegations that club shareholder Neil Rankine also holds an interest in fellow Championship outfit Dumbarton and League 2 East Fife, reconvened at Hampden on Friday after sitting for the first time on October 22.

The SFA judicial panel finished hearing evidence at the end of last week but did not get the chance to question the Livingston chairman, Gordon McDougall. The West Lothian outfit have been accused of breaching five rules relating to club ownership. Rankine denies having any involvement with Dumbarton and East Fife.

In a separate issue, Livingston fear they will receive a points deduction from the SPFL after defaulting on payments to HMRC.

Re: Livy Going Bust?

I wouldn't wish bankruptcy or liquidation on any club (well maybe 1 which has only been in existence for 2 and a half years) but how ironic would it be if Livi went tits up and were replaced by current Lowland league leaders Edinburgh City who play at none other than Meadowbank Stadium.

Re: Livy Going Bust?

This 40k we "loaned" Livi...

Did they ever pay it back?

Livingston: SPFL deducts five points over tax breaches

Championship side Livingston have been deducted five points for breaching Scottish Professional Football League rules relating to non payment of tax.
At a disciplinary hearing, Livingston admitted to failing to advise the SPFL at the time that it had been in default of its tax obligations in relation to bonus payments to players in 2010/11.
This meant that Livingston had been able to register players when it should not have been able to do so.
The club was also fined £10,000.
SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: "The tax default and reporting rules are an integral part of maintaining a fair league competition."
Livingston are bottom of the Championship, with two wins and three draws from 14 games.
The loss of five points with immediate effect leaves the West Lothian side on four points, seven adrift of second-bottom Cowdenbeath.
Livingston chairman Gordon McDougall told BBC Scotland: "The club are working with their accountants and HMRC to establish exactly how much tax is due to be paid.
"This matter was the subject of a voluntary declaration by the club. We will be making no further comment on the situation."
The club has been banned from registering players since the start of the season after it volunteered evidence of undeclared bonus payments.
Livingston changed their name from Meadowbank Thistle when they moved to West Lothian in 1995.
They won a place in the Uefa Cup only seven years after starting out in the Third Division but have had two spells in administration, between 2004 and 2005 and in 2009.

Re: Livy Going Bust?

Regarding the Livingston dual-interest charges with both Dumbarton and East Fife, the SFA have apparently decide not to proceed with the charges regarding Dumbarton.

Re: Livy Going Bust?

Club chairman Gordon McDougall told the Evening News: “It’s maybe a tad optimistic to expect to get away with the lot ..."

Er, is that a guilty plea then?

Re: Livy Going Bust?

I hope they lose to Alloa in Petrofac Training Cup regarding Mr Rankine involvement with the club. Alloa deserve to win the cup and should be after beating rangers to get to the final.

I wonder if this was some sort of payment for consultancy.

Rankine has previously stated on how he has advised the East Fife board on matters - appointing Gary Bolan for example. I wonder if the accounts show any payments for such advice?
