Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Bob Stirrett

Was there a Bob Stirrett (excuse the spelling if wrong) that played for us back in the 50s? Had a drink with him last night and he told me some cracking stories but can't find any info on him. Great guy I must say.

Re: Bob Stirrett

Bob Stirrat was a right back who played in the late 50's and I would guess the early 60's.

There is a photograph of him in the last match day programme v Arbroath.

Re: Bob Stirrett

Cheers Sammy. 1956-1965. It was great listening to his stories. Must have been amazing inside Bayview with over 15,000 inside at some games.

Re: Bob Stirrett

Bob Stirrat played in 1 of the better EF teams in 1963/64-managed by Jimmy Bonthrone.

My recollection is that the team would have been ( sorry if I get some of the names wrong)
Dick Donnelly

Bob Stirrat Harry Smith/ George Orphant

Jim Walker Jake Young Alex Wright/ Frank Donnelly

Alex Mc Watt / Eddie Meechan Morris Aitken Ian Stewart Andy Waddell(?)

George Dewar

A team that could defend, score lots of goals, and had the best half back/centre half combination I have personally ever seen in EF colours.
Bob Stirrat did not do sliding tackles. He lunged with his right leg , causing his opponent to collapse in a heap groinless.
Crwds at that time were approximately 4,500.

Re: Bob Stirrett

Some great East Fife players there. I seem to remember a Morrison at left back before big George Orphant, also Jim Bryce at left half but don't remember Aitken, was always George Dewar partnering Ian Stewart.

Ps anyone remember Hamish Watt on the right wing, Jimmy Kinsella and Jonny Lawler, both small indie forwards, Bobby Waugh and Bobby Ross, both wingers, Bert Allan goalie prior to Dick Donnelly, Billy McGann after D Donnelly, Alec Wright at left half.

Those were the days!!!!!!!!!

Re: Bob Stirrett

I remember Frank Morrison as a small but tough as nails full back with Stirrat and Walker no nonsense crunchers. Walker usually took a rocket of a free kick.
For some reason Waugh is the only name which I don't remember.

I thought James Allan was the only indie forward we'd had.
