Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

So... Better get started. Who would u get rid off and who would you keep? what's the transfer news? Who we signing or who are we interested in

Re: transfers

Would love Trouton(brechin)maybe Lavery(Berwick).Theres no really any point in signing a player with "flair" as Naysmith would never play him.

Re: transfers

Alan Martin - Goalie fae clyde top goalkeeper been about in the past and defo need a first choice keeper. Stephen Grindlay type goalie please.

Full-backs a new left back and get page and dickson signed. Bobby barr?? Josh watt? Alan lithgow?? Ryan Scully or Scott Fox?? Dundee united midfielder Petrie?? Craig Gunn fae Elgin?? Marc McKenzie?? Martin Greham?? Gordon Smith?? Lewis Coult??

Forgot to list them in my list of players lavery decent midfielder, needs to move on for berwick. Any Livingston players? Jordan white would be nice good height on the laddie. Simon Murray loan move? Ross McCord - Montrose.

Re: transfers

Simon Murray loan move?

Re: transfers

DPH
Simon Murray loan move?

Aye I'm reckon he won't go straight in united first team and under a manager he will improve as a player getting first team back out on-loan and will score goals with kev smith and fash next season, they could form a partnership, help develop his career and get us goals which we all know he can but failed massively since his move to united gone through. Just putting idea's who we can get for next season really unless we start buying in players from the juniors again and get Jordyn Sheerin in

Yep. Scott Fox is gonna leave first team football at Partick to come and play in the basement league for East Fife. Can just see him thinking "I'm really not happy playing week in week out in the SPL, East Fife is where i want to be."

The only players we'll be able to attract are junior players and those released over the coming weeks.

Re: transfers

Still think Kenny Deuchar could do a job for us in this division if he came out of retirement and got fit.
Anyone got his number for Gary

Re: transfers

Aye lets sign the commanding centre half who hasn't just conceded the 2nd most goals in the league. 37 year old Kenny Deuchar who still has pace to burn great shout! Alan Trouten?? Hes probably been the best player in League 1 this season... Anyways doesn't matter, we have to best two centre backs in the league and we still cant defend Jokes on me though as I am the paying fan(nyyy)

Re: transfers

I was at the ground tonight as I was collecting something while there was a meeting. Spoke to a few of the players who said they don't know what they are doing for the upcoming season and I can confirm Caolan Macaleer and Sean Dickson have left the club

Re: transfers

Also Scott Smith released & Lewis Barr told he can leave as not part of 1st team plans!! Shame had to let Dickson & McAleer go. Other players considering new Contracts!!

Re: transfers

McAleer been unlucky with injuries this season, liked the look of him at the start of the season. Feel for players released today, and hopefully they find new clubs quickly, the break is going to be interesting to see who else goes and who comes in.

Re: transfers

Gutted about Lewis Barr I would have him starting ahead of walker every week

Re: transfers

More will be heading out the door.

Re: transfers

Maskrey also release, gutted about dickson and barr. Have a look at this ; http://pfascotland.co.uk/player-availability/. Any players on there you would take? Would take andy barrowman and jon routledge. Also interesting to see page on that list

Re: transfers

Lewis Barr has not been released.

Re: transfers

I know Barr is not released, I am gutted that he has been told he is not in the gaffers plans

Player News from Bayview

We can announce that we will not be renewing the contracts of Derek Riordan, Caolan McAleer, Scott Smith, Daryl Falconer and David Maskrey. Sean Dickson has chosen to move to pastures new and we would like to thank all these boys for there efforts on behalf of the Club and wish them well for the future.

Re: transfers

Please get Page signed up if Julen leaves if not still would have Page and Julen together good patnership going there in 2nd half of the season, Page has been outstanding for us and scored some important goals as a defender. Gutted to see Dickson leave the club and not surprised we have released McAleer his injuries and lack of games under the management said it all when he was in the stands most games when he should be out there along with Barr i still think Barr is too lightweight in midfield and even though he should be out there instead of walker its the reason he isn't included in the manager's plans no need to have players who aren't up to the task its a shame really. Barrowman would be a shout and see who else looks good in the coming weeks. As for the two young ones is back to their level in the juniors and scott smith was unlucky but his pace and time on the ball let him down most times replacing the manager with experience in that position.

Am shocked to see Clyde on the other hand been the active team so far in our league they have signed players like Mitchell, Bolochweckji from E.stirling and chris smith from stirling and two others.

Re: transfers

Rumour has it Naysmith the ham is set to sign 11 defenders for next season.
No fucking surprises there then.

Re: transfers

Paul McManus released from Arbroath, would we have him back... again???

I probably would!!

Re: transfers

McManus couldn't hit a barn door from 6 feet. He was finished when he was here and much over-rated. Runs for 90 mins but a complete waste of a jersey.
Arbroath released him for a reason. Probably for the above.

They released him because he's out injured for six months. So your probably wrong.

No I'm not wrong. Seen plenty of McManus when he was fully fit and he was brutal.
Respect your loyalty but he was no more than a trier and way past his sell by date.

Re: transfers

8th highest goalscorer in the league, I don't think very highly of him it's just stats show he's still good enough for his level and would rather a trier than some of the trash we get.

Re: transfers

Davidson released from Dundee.

3rd Division probably his level now.

Re: transfers

Paul wasn't injured he just wasn't scoring. Also his last time at East Fife was plagued by injury but has since has specialist treatment. He says he this is the best he has felt in years and he just scored about 15 this season. A defo!!

Re: transfers

Kevin smith and fraser Mullen sign on for a the upcoming campaign

Re: transfers

Well pleased about Kevin Smith, too good for League 2 but glad he's staying.

Re: transfers

Would be good if we could have an official list of players who so far will definitely be with us next season. Need a bit reassuring especially if I am going to get my season ticket.

Definitely, maybe?

Re: transfers

You have misunderstood ya plonker. It's a definite.

Re: transfers

Going to be contreversial here. But if Page does sign and we did keep Julen, why would we need Campbell. The defence has looked far more solid without him in it and he certainly isn't a CM. Don't get me wrong he has shown a lot of loyalty to the club and vice versa. Club let him miss a start of season so he could coach in America. I always feel that we are vulnerable to cross balls and set pieces with him at CB.
We probably won't sign either Page and Julen will move up. But there will be other CB's available. I think at our level dominat centre halves fair much better.

He is out for 6 months ,great player on his day and showed here both times this year he still has it . 18 for the season isn't a bad record so hardly past it . He is out though so no need for anymore McManus talk

Re: transfers

Just checked soccer base McManus has banged in 24 goals in 45 games for Arbroath shocked they released him with an injury . He was a great servant for the club and should never come back for the 4th time as he is getting older . He will always be remembered on championship day the day we won the league with 2 great goals and then trophy day when he scored that great 2nd goal skipping by 4 players and smashing it into corner. We should look at getting templeman back he would be great with Kevin smith in hole

Re: transfers

Slating McManus is a joke. His previous spell at the club was blighted by injury and he was practically forced to play through the pain barrier despite clearly being nowhere near 100%. Will never forget his goals that day at Firs park to take us up as champions. Good luck with your recovery Paul and I personally would have you back at EF if fit.

Re: transfers

David Banjo
And marvin Andrews lets signing
Them

Re: transfers

Can't see Andrews wanting to sign but its he ideal type of player we need rarely loses a high ball or a 50/50. I have noticed a lot of players who have been released have hearts connections. Gary glen got released anybody think he would drop down to our league

Re: transfers

I have a workmates who comes originally from Montrose an he is a season ticket holder.

His opinion is that Marvin Andrews is a huge liability and gives goals away. We can confirm see third goal at last Montrose visit to Bayview.

Re: transfers

Speculation that Ryan Goodfellow, a goalie from Dunfermline has signed.

Hope it's east fife be ashmed he signs for other club he has scored some important goals from defence at corners and him and julen at CB took us to the play-offs and we looked a solid team part from the home defeat to berwick and us having to play 10 men at hampden in the 2nd half of last season. I would like to see shagger back but I think his carrer is finished it's that time of year he's getting older than younger and no to Kenny deuchar he hasn't played much football and probably enjoying life as a doctor than being on the fitbaw field tbh that's the reason he isn't around in the basement league again.
Iain davidson fae dundee look good but was he not a full-time player probably go back to kirkcaldy. Jamie Reid the boy that was on-loan to elgin was on a smiliar deal at stenny and scored a barrel load for them in the first half of last season I can remember looks good striker but I would want to see Craig Gunn sign for us as he is been mention on here a few years back and is a proven goalscorer in this division but I fear he lives too far from fife like the Robbo suitation we had about travelling and same would apply to mcshane was the reason he choose to go out to stranrear.
Barrowman a good shout, but his record he'll attract other clubs and we will miss out on.
Also lavery looks good winger and good shout to sign him as we lost mcaleer now and lithgow fae stenny if page doesn't sign or julen leaves or both. But like someone mention we haven't missed Campbell and I know his loyalty is with east fife I just think page and julen were brilliant at cb and Campbell wasn't a cm either and that's spot on in one of the post above.

No to big marv the players getting a lot older than younger and he'll no sign anyway he has signed for clubs against east fife and choose montrose, his carrer is done so no got Campbell and Julen?
Watch this someone will mention stoney now? So no too. Iain Campbell (cowden), Nat Wedderburn or Andrew Jackson (brechin) gary glen would do a job in this division but out of our reach I think.

I see Iain Turner fae Sheffield utd he is a scotland goalkeeper and was at Everton set-up when gary was at Everton dunno if he would give him a contract back in scotland? Was at dunfermline for a season in the past too and has been in fife could be a rumour too since gary and Iain are both everton's and scotland connection. Iain has now been released by the blades.

We also welcome goalkeeper Ryan Goodfellow to the fold."

Totally agree, Running around waving your hands with a high screeched squeel, not watching the play when things need to move fast, huffy attitude towards rest of team (Im better than you attitude) coupled with the fact that he only ever challenges 50% of the time, when Lewis goes in 100% of the time.

He was by far the weakest link we had playing towards the end of the season, not a fan at all.

Cookie is another one that looks jinky on wing but wrong choices and poor final ball make him another I was not happy with.

I hope Gary does move on, that way there is a chance that a new manager will get rid of them both and go for some more quality players, there are plenty about now from League 1 and 2, it takes a good manager to get them in......if Gary cant do that then he has to go.

Re: transfers

Greig Spence released by Alloa would be a good signing for us as would Nathan Blockley of Airdrie. Hope there is news soon of some new players soon. Getting Jules to re-sign would be the best piece of business tho !

No idea. I imagine Julen will be keeping his options open for the next month or so. He must have offers from other teams in the league above, surely? Fingers crossed he decides to stick with his studies and continue playing for us part-time. Heard Stirling Albion have also offered him a deal.

Re: transfers

It's just a training session. I was speaking to someone who is currently trialing and wil be there tonight

Re: transfers

Was wondering about this supposed game tonight cos I thought that any decent player would be a bit miffed having to play in a trial game. A half decent player would be signed on his present ability and where he previously played, not in a one off bounce game where even the best might have an off day.

Re: transfers

Spoke to a boy who feature in this trail game and said he was sure that David banjo trained with the rest of the trialists.

Re: transfers

Was not david banjo

Re: transfers

dunfermline player Alex Whittle would make a great left-back replacement but got a feeling Gordon smith will sign due to kev staying on.
Lewis coult wouldn't be a bad signing at this level bit out of depth last season in league above. Darren lavery for midfield, kevin Nisbet and Steve brisbane were decent enough players last year I would look at and it's understood brisbane has joined the clyde revolution, basically the next bobby linn for me.
Phew banjo isn't going to be the next player lined up glad that rumour has now ended anyone herd any word on our Spainish Van Dijk is he staying or going?

Re: transfers

Would like to see Whittle and Lavery coming to Bayview. Rumoured that Naysmith was interested in Watson of Montrose. Realistically though players are unlikely to sign until it is known for definite that Gary will be the Manager. No point in signing players he thinks can do a job if he is looking to move on. Gary & the Club should make a statement. If he is actively looking to move on the Board should tell him to go so they can recruit a new Manager now so he has time to build a squad. If Gary is staying put the stories to bed and get players in to get a squad together for an assault on League 2 next season. Clyde & Stirling Albion have shown their intent by making good signings early. Let's not be left behind.

Re: transfers

There appears to be a difference between "agree to sign " and "sign".
1 other player who has not actually put pen to paper is also being approached by a rival club.

I agree with bayviewboy that the board should show leadership with regard to the position of the manager - 1 way or another. Not only to keep "signed" players but to entice prospective signings.

Re: transfers

Arbroath signed up Grehan and Coult and we have Naysmith saying he will look into signing players after his holiday.

When will this club learn? Year on year we leave assembling a new team till the last week before the season starts and it takes them a good 2 month to integrate together, by that point we are already a good 10 points off the top spot.

Joshua watt
Jamie McCluskey
Ross Caldwell
Craig Slutherland
Nathan Blockley
Gregor Fotheringham
Jim Paterson
Stuart Urqhart

Evan the boy Lavery from berwick would be decent.

Those players are without a club in the league above. Most of all Watt stood out in both play-off games last season against us a player I want to see at the club or the club to offer a contract to but these players are ideal for the forthcoming squad if I was Gary and sadly we hearing were going for Banjo and Sweeney must be mental if we don't want watt here.

Re: transfers

The playing budget is much reduced.

Worth keeping that in mind before expressing disappointment in the players Gary may be looking at.

Stevenson cut the budget to £60K when Jim Moffat was manager. If that is the resources we have to play with Gary will have a hard job just to keep us off the bottom.

Yeah and our squad seems to be getting smaller by the weeks with players been kept on then leaving. Brings me no surprised he looked certain to leave out of managers choice last season as walker was ahead of him even when walker was poor, barr wanted first team starts and probably it's the reason behind that. We certainly need signings and no more exits from the club. Am also surprised mcshane is kept maybe we will see a different player who knows I thought he was homesick was the reason he signed for stranrear in the first place.

I've only seen him play two games for Clyde so can't judge but he's only 27 so can't see how he would be past his sell by date.

ok, well he's utter pish then. Lanky streak of piss if ever there was one.

You thinking of the right person?? He's not even 6ft

Everybody is lanky if you happen to be a little, insignificant little shite like Mr Angry.

Re: transfers

Alan Cook has left now apparently!!!

What's going on, that's three left that were supposedly signed up for next term???

Re: transfers

East Fife website, very little changes except the numbers draw, has my ipad frozen or is there no news at all coming out of Bayview. Not a bit of news in the East Fife Mail on Wednesday past.

Only player movement is out. From the list given as signed on for next season we have lost Fleming, Barr and possibly now Cook. Players rumoured to be coming in don't fill me with excitement.

Come on management, give us something to cling on to.

All this and we are encouraged to but season tickets. Who are we going to be watching as the players left leave one by one. No point saying, well he wasn't much good anyway cos we don't yet have replacements.

Anybody else starting to worry a little bit.

Re: transfers

Barr Fleming and Cook all signed on two year deals by Naysmith. If I had to guess I would say that McShane will be next. I suspect that Cook and McShane are/where on a decent wage and have hardly justified it.

Budget apparently been cut. Dread to think what he will sign. Just hope the Kelbie and Sweeney rumours are just that. Kelbie has dropped through the leagues and ended up in the Juniors. At 30 I suspect he's found his level. Sweeney is just another midfielder in the Walker Mullen mould. Hardly the creative player we are crying out for. Then again we all know that Gary Negasmith doesn't like forward thinking centre mids.

Re: transfers

I see East Fife are being linked with Dougie Hill in the Courier today - I know you've signed endless duds from Rovers in recent years, but this one will buck the trend. Strong commanding centre half who's discipline has improved greatly. Myself and most other Rovers fans were a bit sorry we didn't re-sign him. There's no danger of him going to another full-time club as he has a well paid job, but I thought someone like Alloa or Dumbarton would snap him up. Great bit of business for you lot if you get him.

does he live in Fife?

Re: transfers

I'm sure he lives in Edinburgh or Midlothian.
He works as a plumber / heating engineer and drives a rather tasty motor.
The late Turnbull Hutton saw his car and remarked 'We must be paying you far too much money' to which Dougie replied 'Naw, it's just I'm a better plumber than I am a fitba player'.
